rlhis invention aims to provide a novel means whereby a shade and curtainbraclet may be held on window 'frames of different dimensions. Y
lt is within the province or' the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains.
lilith the above and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement ot parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood' that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein` disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing 'from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings f Figure 1 shows in front elevation, a device constructed in accordance with the invention; s i
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section on the line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a rear elevation;
Figure 4 is a front elevation wherein the latch has been swung to open position;
Figure 5 is an end elevation;
Figure 6 is a cross section on the line 6-6 oi Figure 1; and
Figure of Figure l.
The device includes a first member 1, in the form of a plate, the structure, preferably, being made of metal throughout. The irst member 1 is provided along its longitudinal edges with overhanging guide flanges 2. The iirst member 1 is supplied at its ends with brackets 3 adapted to support curtain poles or the like.- At oneend of the member 1 is located a rearwardly extended arm 4, arranged approximately at right anglesto the member 1, the corners of the arm 4 being turned to form projections 5. The arm 4 has a rectangular extension 6 which is secured to the rear surface of the member 1, the extension 6 being retained Within the guide flanges 2, as Figures 7 and 3 will show.
The device includes a secondmember 7 in the lorm ot' a plate, mounted to slide within the guide flanges 2o`f the first member 1. The second member is supplied at its'ends with an angularly disposed arm 8, corresponding to the arm 4, the arm 8 having projections 9, like the projections 5. The arm 8 is equipped with a. concaved boss 10 having a slot 11 adapted to receive one trunnion of a shade roller (not shown).
rlhe second member 7 carries a keeper 12, in theform o1 a headed stud, mounted to move 1n a slot 14 `formed in the first member 1. A headed pivot element is mounted to move in the slot 14. l On the pivot element 15 a latch 16 is mounted to swing, in paralelismV to the irst member 1. rlibe latch 16 has any desired number ,of inclined seats 17, adapted to be engaged, one ata time, with the headed stud 12. The latch 1,6 has an angularly projecting end 18. The numeral 19 marks a retractile spring. @ne end of the retractile spring 19 is attached at 2O to the part 18 of the latch 16, and the opposite end of the spring is attached at 21 to the first member 1.
and, thus, one of the Stiles of a Window frame not'shown) may be gripped vbetween the projections 5 and 9, the article thus being held on the window frame 'for the support of one end of a curtain rod' or the like. The
,n y e Y. latch 16 may be swung into open position, as r is a cross section on the line 7-7 shown in Figure 4, and the second member 7 may be slid lengthwise, thereby to adjust the device for window frame stiles of di erent widths, the latch 16 then being swung down to engage the keeper 12 in the appropri-ate one of the seats 17 in the latch 16. The latch 16 may be engaged at different points (represented by the seats 1T) with the stud 12, and, therefore, with the second member 7 and, thus, the pull of the spring 19 may be keptapproximately constant, even though the device may have beenadjusted to accommodate window stiles of different Widths. In other Words, the construction is such that the spring 19 will not exert a weal: pull when the article is -mounted on a narrow window stile, and exert an objectionably strong pull when the article is mounted on a Wide window stile. i lll/That is claimed is r1. A device ot the class described comprising first and second frame-engaging members connected for right-dine. sliding movement, the second member' having a keeper, a pivot element mounted tor rightline sliding movement on the iirst member, a
latch mounted to swing on the pvot element and engageable with the keeper, and a sprmg connection between the latch and the first member. e
2. A devlee of the Class deserlbed C0mpr1s-` lng rst and second frame-engaglng members, the lrstV member having an elongated openlng, the second member having a keeper movable in the opening, e pvot element movable in the opening, a` latch mounted to swing on the pvot element and engageable with the keeper, there being t spring connection between the latch and the rst member.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflxecl my signature.
