same um;
application mea amber se, 19:7. seran no. ssasei.
The main objects of this invention are:
First, to provide an im roved septic tank comprising a plurality o separate containers in which the 4containers may be easily and effectively installed in assembled relation, at the same time providing proper connecting passages therefor.
Second, to provide an improved septic tank which may be properly installed by inexperienced workmen.
Third, lto provide an improved septic tank which is very economical in its parts and at the same time efficient for the purposes intended.
Objects relating to details and economies of construction and operation of my invention Will appear from the detailed description to follow. The invention is defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. 1 is a fragmentary view of a septic tank embodying the features of my invention partially in section on a line corresponding to line 1-1 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 2 is a detail side elevation partially in vertical central section on a line corre- Bo sponding to line 2--2 of Figs. 1 and 3.
Fig. 3 is a detail View partially in vertical section on a line corresponding to line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is an elevation of one of the bafile passage members employed for the inlet and discharge conduits. e
Fig. 5 is a perspective View of one of the passage to members.
ln the rawing similar reference characters referto similar parts throughout the several views.
In the embodiment illustrated, I have shown afpair` of containers but it will be understood that the number may be increased where occasion requires,- although the structure illustrated is a complete operative unit.
I provide a pair of .cylindrical containers,
1, 1 which, when employed in a single-unitl installation, are duplicates.L These containers have flattened side faces 2 which are disposed in 'opposed yabutting relation. These lattenedfaces have registering openings 3 therein. The containers lalso have openings 4 in'their side Walls preferably opposite the openings 3, the openings 4 being in the embodiment illustrated, rectangular as are also the openings 3.
vI provide a combined locking or key and passage member 5 referably oval in cross section and of such imensions as to fit with- .'m the openings 3 constituting a locking or key means for maintaining the containers in proper assembled relation.
.The member 5- as illustrated, has grooves 6 1n lts side and bottom, these grooves being embraced by the edges of the openings 3 and adapted to receive a joint sealing material, as conventionall illustrated at 7. lThe containers may be urther connected and sealed by an outer joint lling 8.
'.Ihe member 5 has a central vertical partitlon 9 providing' vertical passages l0 connected at their tops through the openings 11 1n the partition. This forms a return or bailled passage connecting the two contalners.
I also provide a pair of inlet and discharge conduit bailie members 12 which are of channel cross section and arranged on the inner sides of the containers to coact with the Walls thereofand roviding vertical passages 13. These mem ers 12 have rectangular outer Wall portions 14 which fit within and are secured in the openings 4 of the containers, the port-ions 14 of the members 12 having holes 15 therein to receive the inlet and discharge conduits as 16 and 17.
The tops of the passages 10 of the passage member 5 and of the inlet conduit baile member 12 are provided with covers or top closures 18, these for convenience in assembling being formed as flat plates of proper dimensions to rest on the tops of the members 5 and 12 and to be retained thereon by cementing.
The container covers 19 are in the form of slabs of concrete of suitable form and dimensions, the upper edges of the containers having joint grooves 20 facilitating the effective sealing of the `ioints.
By thus forming and arranging the parts, they may all be formed of concrete Without the necessity of excessive Weight and-they may be easily installed. f
Where an `installation'of a capacity ex- 105 ceeding that of the pair of containers is ,de-- sired. one or more additional containers having flattened faces on bothA sides are installed with communicating openings therein, a series of anaerobic bacteria containers 110 being thus provided which in effect constialigned with the abutting walls of said containers and having an opening at the top thereof providing a pair of vertical passages connected at the top and coacting to provide a return passage connection for said containers, inlet and discharge conduit baille members of channel cross section disposed on the inner sides yof said containers to coact With the walls thereof providing vertical inlet and discharge passages, said baffle members having outer wall portions at the tops thereof conformed to and secured within said side openings in said container walls and having openings therein to receive inlet and discharge conduits, closures for the top of the passages of said passage member and of the inlet baille member, and covers for said containers.
2. A-septic tank comprising cylindrical containers having flattened side faces with openings therein disposed in opposed abutting relation with their openings registering, said containers also having sideopenings in their Walls opposite said flattened faces, a combined locking and passage member disposed vertically in said registering openings and fitting therein to constitute a locking member for said containers, said passage fmember having a vertical partition aligned with the abutting walls of said containers and having an opening at the top thereof providing a pair of vertical passages connected at the top and coacting to provide a return passage connection for said containers, inlet and discharge conduit baffle members of channel cross section disposed on the inner sides of said containers to coact with the Walls thereof providing vertical inlet and discharge passages, said baille members having outer wall portions at the tops thereof conformed to and secured within said side openings in said container walls and having openings therein to receive inlet and discharge conduits, and covers for said containers.
3. A septic tank comprising cylindrical containers having flattened side faces disposed in abutting relation and provided with registering openings, said containers having outer o enings in their walls, a combined key an assage member having `vertical passages t erein connected at the top disposed vertically .in said registering openin s of said containers and constituting a loc ing member therefor, inlet and discharge conduit baffle members of channel cross section disposed onthe inner sides of said containers and having outer Wall portions conformed to and secured within said outer openings in said container Walls, and covers for said containers.
4. A septic tank comprising cylindrical containers having flattened side faces disposed in abutting relation and providedwith registering openings, said containers having outer openings in their walls, a passage member having a baiiled passage therein disposed in said registering openings, inlet and discharge conduit baffle members of channel cross section disposed on the inner sides of said containers and having outer Wall portions adapted to receive conduits secured Within said openings insaid container Walls, and covers for said containers.
