INSECTIFUGE HOLDER Filed March 17, 1930 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 I N VEN TOR.
Jmes L. Gross ATTORNEY.
Patented Nov. 10, 1931 JAMES L. CROSS, OFMILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN- INSECTIFUGE HOLDER Application filed March 17, 1930. Serial No. 436,582.
This invention relates to an insectifuge holder designed primarily for holding an insectifuge of the moth-preventive type, such as essential oils of cedar, but it is to be understood that a holder, in aceordancewith this invention, may be employed for any purpose for which it is found applicable, and the invention has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a holder for m the purpose referred to' so constructed as to permit of the odor of the insectifuge contained therein to continuously permeate a compartment, closet, room, receptacle or space in which the holder is arranged, to pre- 15 vent the destructive action of moths.
A further object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a holder for the purpose referred to which is simple in its construction and arrangean ment, strong, durable, compact, thoroughly eflicient when used, readily assembled, and comnarativelv inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel conparts as hereinafter more specifically described, and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes. variations and modifications can be resorted to which fall within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a top plan view of an insectifuge holder in accordance with this inven- 1 holder 1s of cylindrical form and includes an tion. Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof. Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3, Figure 2. Figure4 is a section on line l-4e, Figure 2. Figure 5 is a top plan of a modified form. Figure 6 is an elevation, broken away, of the form shown in Figure 5.
A holder in accordance with this invention, with reference to Figures 1 to 4, comprises a squared hollow body preferably constructod of any suitable sheet metal and which includes a. flat bottom .1, a top 2 provided with a circular opening 3 and a destruction, combination and arrangement of P into which the outlet opens.
' I Secured to the inner face of each side wall is a foraminous member 11 of a width greater therewith at one end a bottom 13, and at its other end a top 14 formed with a circular opening 15 and a depending, annular tapered or edge of opening 15. -frictionally engages'with the flange 16 for pending, tapered, annular flange 4 which forms a continuation of the wall or edge of opening'S. The body also includes side walls 5, 6, 7 and 8. The bottom 1, top 2 and'side walls are integral with each other. A '55 v flanged lid 8 frictionally engages with the flange 4 for closing the opening 3.
Each of the side walls have a plurality of superposed slits and below the slits inherent parts of the wall are struck outwardly therefrom to form a set of series of superposed. extensions 9 of alength less than the width of the wall. Each extension 9 has its length materially greater that its width and consists of an intermediate portion, a. pair'of end 6 portions and a free top edge. The extensions 9 of each set are so formed whereby their end portions will curve inwardlytowards the wall from which they are struck. The, intermediate portion of each extension inclines outwardly from the bottom to the, top
thereof thereby providing an outlet 10 for the passage of the, odors from' the insectifuge which is contained in the holder and an air ocket arranged outwardly of outlet 10 and than the length of the extension and of a. height greater than a set or series of extensions. The members 11 prevent the leakage or passage of the insectifuge through the outlets 10. The interstices of members 11 are square. The extensions are arranged to direct 8r odors "from the insectifuge upwardly and outwardly with respect to the holder. p
With reference to Figuresf; and 6, the
annular body portion 12 having integral flange 16 forming a continuation of the wall closing the openings 15.; a
The body portion 12 has struck therefrom aplurality of spaced sets of supcrposedextensions 18. The outer extensions of the sets we are spaced from the bottom 13 and top 14.
A flanged lid 17 The extensions 18 are formed and arranged in the same manner as the extensions 9. Each extension 18 provides an outlet 19.
Secured to the inner face of the body portion 12 are spaced foraminous member-s corresponding in number to the number of sets of extensions. Each: member 20 associates with a set of extensions 18, extends across the outlets 19 provided by the set and is of a width greater than the length of an extension and of a height greater than'the set. The extensions 18 and members 20 provide a function the same as that extensions 9 and members 11.
The openings 3 and 15, when not closed, 1permit of access tothe interior of the holder ody.
Each form as shown includes a body por tion, a closed top, a closed bottom, a plurality of spaced sets of tensions providing sets of outlets and a foraminous member associated with each set of outlets. 7
It is thought the many advantages of a holder for the purposeset forth and in accordance with this invention can be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, yet it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction can be had which fall within the scope of the invention' as claimed.
What I claim is:
1. A holder for the purpose set forth com prising a receptacle formed of a hollow body portion, a closed-bottom and aclosed top, said body portion having spaced inherent parts thereofoutset forming spaced sets of super posed spaced extensions providing spaced sets of. superposed spaced outlets and spacedvsets of spaced air pockets outwardly of and into which open said outlets, said extensions having free top edges and their sides and bottom merging into the body portion, and spaced foraminous members secured to the inner face of said body portionand each common to and extending completely across and beyond the edges of the outlets of a set.
2.v A holder for the purpose set forth comprising a receptacle formed of a hollow body portion, a closed bottom and a closed top, said body portion having spaced inherent parts thereof outset forming spaced sets of superposed spaced extensions providing spaced sets provided by the portion, a closed bottom and a closed top, said body portion having spaced inherent parts thereof outset forming spaced sets of superposed spaced extensions providing spaced sets of superposed spaced outlets and spaced sets of spaced air pockets outwardly of and into which opensaid outlets, saidextensions having free top edges and their-sides and bottom merging into the body portion, and spaced foraminous members secured to the inner face'of said-'body-portion and each common to and extending completely across and beyond the edges of the outlets of a set, the interstices of said members being of square contour.
Iii-testimony whereof, I affix my signature hereto.-
' JAMESLCROSS.
a series of superposed exof superposed spaced outlets and spaced sets 1 of spaced air pockets outwardly of and into which open said outlets, said extensions having free top edges and their sides and bottom merginginto the body portion, and forami nous n'ieans-extending within said body portion and extending completely across said outlets, the interstices of said means being of square contour.
8. A holder for the purpose set forth comprising a receptacle formed of a hollow body
