GEORGE E. EAGER, OE BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN OVERALLS.
Specification forming part of Letters-Patent No. 167,315, dated August 31, 1875; application filed December 11, 1874.
OAsE A.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE R. EAGER, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Overalls or other pantaloon-garments; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 represents a view in perspective, and Fig. 2a vertical section, of my improved garment. Fig. 3 represents a section through the waistband. Fig. 4 represents a section of a modification, and Fig. 5 a similar section of another modification, of which Fig. 6 is a view in perspective.
My invention relates to a modified form of the pants patented to me June 11, 1872, and numbered 127,750. In that patent the improved garment was provided with but a single strap and buckle wherewith to make the necessary adjustments to fit the wearer of the garment. This, in some respects, may not be as convenient as may be desired.
My present improvement consists in pro viding the pants with two adjusting-buckles, suitably arranged t0-connect with the ends of a strap or straps fastened to the 'pants, and inclosed in a hollow formed by a suitably-constructed waistband.
To enable others skilled in the art to make, construct, and use my improvement, I will now proceed to describe it in detail, omitting a particular description of such parts as are Old and not essential to a full understanding of the invention, here premising that the illvention is equally applicable to all kinds and qualities of pantaloon-garments, such as paning of a length sufficient to project beyond it at each end. I then sew the strap and waistband together, at or near the middle. This done I affix a buckle, b, at each end of the front waistband or front part of the pants, thus providing each side with a buckle, by which, with the ends of the strap 0, the necessary adjustments can be conveniently made. This form is shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3. Secondly, instead of sewing the strap (3 directly to the middle of the waistband, it may be sewed 011 each side at a point nearer to the side of the pants, thus leaving a plain stretch in the middle, there being two buckles, as in thefirst plan. This device is shown in Fig. 4. In this plan the ends of the strap 0, instead of forming one continuous strap, may be made in two parts, and then sewed as before. Or, thirdly, by adopting either of the two modes of fastening the strap or straps G, and making them of sufficient length, the hollow waistband may at each end be continued still farther around on the front waistband, and the buckles I) moved farther around and fastened to suit the change. This plan is shown in Figs. 5 and 6, and leaves a portion of the waistband plain and uncorrugated as well in front as behind.
In all cases the pants will be provided with the usual opening in front, for buttoning and unbuttoning in putting them on or off; but, if desired, they need not necessarily be provided with such opening, although it is deemed better, as once adjusted to the wearer the buckles need not again be touched; otherwise they would each time they were used.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- Y A pantaloon-garment provided with a h0l-. low Waistband, a, strap or straps G secured therein, and with a pair of buckles, b b, the whole being arranged and constructed in the manner substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of Witnessesz' J. TYLER POWELL,
D. G. STUART.
