METHOD AND MATERIAL FOR TREATMENT OF THE HAIR IN PERMANENT WAVING.
Application filed August 27, 1926. Serial No. 131,958.
will be increased, and will be best under-v stood from the following description.
In the drawing is shown a perspective view of a cap or masque used in my novel 10 method, This masque is made of any suit able absorbent material and is preferably provided with tape fastenings by which it,
may be drawn down on the head and held in place. It will be understood that, while the form illustrated is a convenientone for the purpose, any simple form of cap or masque will sufiice.
"The masque is soaked in an oily preparatory lotion, composed principally of vegetable oils, such as peanut oil, olive oil or cocoanut oil, or combinations of such oils. Preferably the masque iskept in a sealed bottle prior to its use, to insure that it will be thoroughly saturated with the oils when the masque is used in the treatment.
Preparatory to the permanent waving of the hair, some of the preparatory lotion is heated and the scalp is then massaged with the fingers moistened in the warm lotion. The masque is then saturated with the heat ed lotion and placed over the hair, and drawn down snugly on the head; Then a towel soaked in very hot water is placedover the masque and a drier of any of the usual forms is applied to give a moderate heat for a few minutes. Then all the coverings, including the masque, are removed and the hair shampooed to remove all traces of the oily preparatory lotion. V
The hair has now been subjected to its treatment preparatory to permanent waving, which may be done by any of the usual methods.
Preferably, the hair is also given after- 5 treatments to keep the hair in the same soft, pliable condition which the preparatory treatment gives it. Such after-treatmerits should begin a few weeks after the permanent waving has been done, and is essentially the same as the preparatory treatment, except that the drier is -preferably applied for shorter intervals and with repeated re-moistening of the towels. It will be understood, of course, that the hair is not re-waved after such after-treatments. it
Preferably, after the preparatory treatment, the masque is returned to its bottle and kept covered for use in the after-treatments? on the same head, the absorbent nature of the material of the mas ue being such that it will retain enough oi the preparatory lotionfor use in several aftertreatments. To insure that the same masque is always used on the same head, the bottle is provided with a label for the entry of the users name thereon.
