In practising the invention, the hair is moistenecl and a Cap-like appliance is tted over` the head and hair. This appliance is formed of elastic material and is so constructed that access may be had to the hair through the appliance to arrange the hair in waves. appliance maintains the hair in this set the waves.

Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view in section through the appliance showing certain features of construction and the manner of forming the wave after the appliance is applied to the head.

Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 indicates an appliance for use in waving hair on the human head. This device is in the form of a cap constructed of elastic material such as rubber, and which is shaped to t the head snugly so that it will tightly press the hair to the scalp.

This cap is formed with an upper circular band l1, a lower neck band 12, and a plurality of intermediate bands 14, all of which are arranged to extend circumferentially of the head. The upper band 11 is adapted to circumscribe the upper portion of the skull, while the neck band 12 is adapted to fit the neck just below the jaw. The ends of this latter band 12 are fitted with a fastening element 15 so that it may be quickly detached from the neck. It will be noticed from the drawing that the bands 11, 12 and 14 are spaced equal distances apart so as to form circumferentially arranged openings in the cap. The bands are connected together by means of spaced connectors 16, likewise formed of elastic material and which are connected at their ends to the bands.

The cap is provided with removable cover members 18, one being provided for each spacing between the bands 11, 12 and 14. These cover members 18 are likewise shaped to conform to Thereafter the the contour of the head and are adapted to be secured alongv their marginal'edges to the bands 11, 12 and 14 by means of suitable fastening elements 19'which, in this instance, are illustrated assnap fasteners- It willV benoticed that the cover members 18 are' of a length that they will completely cover the open spaces between the bands.v These cover members are likewise formed of elastic material.

The lower edge of the upper band 11, both edges of the intermediate bands '14, and the upper edge of the neck band 12 are` serrated to maintain the hair properly in position beneath the cap.

It will be noticed that the bands 11, 12 and 14 and the cover members 18 are all formed with closely spaced Ventilating perforations 20.

In use the device is constructed substantially as illustrated and described, and when it is desired to employ the same for waving the hair, the hair is moistened and combed straight downwardly. The cap is then applied and the neck band 12 is fastened about the neck to maintain the cap in proper position on the-head and overv the hair. At this time the cover members 18 are removed or so detached from the bands 11, 12 and 14 that access may be-had to the hair in the spaces between the bands. An instrument such as indicated at 21 is then employed to engage the hair in these open spaces and loop the same outwardly from the head, commencing of course at the uppermost space. These loops as formed are flattened against the head and forwardly directed as illustrated in Fig. 1. The cover members 18 are then arrangedover these flattened loops and connected with the bands 11, 12 and 14 to maintain these flattened loops tightly against the scalp. After the hair has dried suiciently so that the wave is set,

the entire cap or device 10 is removed from the head.

From the foregoing it is obvious that I have provided a comparatively simple and inexpensive device by means of which hair may be waved on the human head without the necessity of applying heat or wave solution thereto; and

while I have shown the preferred form of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes may be made in its construction without departing from the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- 1. A device of the character described comprising a cap-like structure of soft pliable and flexible LA in material snugly fitting the head over the hair, said structure having removable circiunferentially extending sections.

2. A device of the character described comprising a. cap-like structure formed of soft pliable elastic material, said structure having circumferentially extending openings formed therein, and cover members of Vsoft pliable material detachably arranged on said structure and forming a part thereof for covering said openings.

3. A device of the character described comprising a cap-like appliance formed of soft pliable elastic material and adapted to t the head snugly over the hair, said appliance being formed With a plurality of spaced circumferential openings,

cover members of soft pliable material adapted to fit over said openings, and detachable connecting means for connecting `said' cover members to said appliance at the marginal edges of said openings l4;. A device of the character described comprising a cap-like. appliance including an upper band embracing the top of the skull, a neck band to embrace. the neck below the jaw, a pair of intermediate bands, all of said bands extending circumferentially relative to the head and being spaced equal distances apart vertically of the head, said bands all being formed of soft pliable elastic material, connecting means of soft pliable material connecting said bands together at spaced points about their circumferences, ventilated cover means of soft pliable material adapted to be arranged over the appliance and connected thereto.

A device of the character described comprising a cap-like applianceincluding an upper band embracing the top of the skull, a neck band to embrace the neck below the jaw, a pair of intermediate bands, all of said bands extending circumferentially relative to the head and being lspaced equal distances apart vertically of the head, said bands beingformed of soft pliable `flexible material, connecting means of soft pliable material connecting said bands together at spaced points. about their circumferences, and cover members of soft pliable elastic material adapted to be ,arranged circumferentially of the appliance andr detachably connected to the marginal edges of said bands, said cover members and bands being ormed'with Ventilating perforations.
