FENCE-WIRE SPLICE.
Application filed March 12, 1927. Serial No. 174,925.
This invention relates to an improved device for splicing fence Wires together.
The purpose of the invention is to provide a dependable, simple, and efficient device 6 with which the fence wires can be readily connected and by which theyare securely attached together in a sturdy manner.
The particular structural details and their relative arrangement and association which constitutes the principal novelty of the invention will become more readily apparent from the following description and drawings.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a fragmentary View of a portion of a wire fence showing the improved splice as it is incorporated therein.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view on an enlarged scale to show the structural arrangement more plainly.
In the drawings, the fence is generally designated by the reference character 1 and is customary, it is composed of horizontal wires 2 and vertical connecting wires 3. The ends of the horizontal wires are provided with splice eyes 4 which are formed by twisting the ends of the Wire in a conventional manner.
The major improvement in the splice construction is the means shown more plainly in Fig. 2. As indicated here, the reference character 5 represents a bolt which is screw threaded at its opposite end as at 6 for accommodation of retaining nuts 7 Mounted on this bolt at vertically spaced points are spacing sleeves 8 at the opposite ends of which are wire attaching arms 9.
These arms 9 are arranged in pairs, the same being formed with eyes 10 and their inner ends fitted in superposed relation on the bolt. These arms extend at right angles from the bolt, and are held in spaced relation by the spacing sleeves 8 and are pro- Vided at their outer ends with small holes 11 with which the splice eyes 4 are con- M nected.
This arrangement permits the ends of the horizontal wires to be readily connected together, and allows swinging with respect to each other, to accommodate bends or turns in the fence construction.
As before indicated, the invent-ion is characterized by simplicity and inexpensiveness, as well as strength and durability, and convenience in assemblage.
Undoubtedly by considering the description in connection with the drawings, a clear understanding of the construction and use of the invention will be had. Therefore a more lengthy description is thought unnecessary.
Minor changes coming within the field of invention claimed, may be resorted to if desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is A fence wire splice comprising a bolt screw threaded at its opposite ends, retaining nuts, for cooperatlon with the screw threads, a plurality of pairs of connecting arms provided at their inner ends with eyes through which said bolt passes, said eyes being disposed in superposed relation, said arms being provided at their outer ends with holes for the connection of fence wire splice eyes, a plurality of spacing sleeves surrounding the bolt at vertically spaced points and arranged for separating said arms into independent pairs.
