iMPRovi-:MENT iN BALS-TIES.
Specification forming part oi' Letters Patent No. 165,407, dated July 13, 1875; application riled April 15, 1875.
To all whom lit may' concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL E. DAWSON, of Brenhain, countyof Washington and State of Texas, have invented an Improved Cotton- Bale Tie, of which the followingis a specilicasame may be distinguished from others ot' a similar class, together with such parts thereof as are claimed as new, and are desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States.
My invention relates to that class of cottonbale ties which are constructed of metal 5 and the nature thereof consists ot certain improvements in the construction of the same, hereinafter shown and described. 4
In the accompanying plate of drawings, in which corresponding parts are designated by similar letters, A designates a metallic hoop, in one end of which are the elongated apertures B. In the other end of the hoop is cut the transverse aperture C, of such asize as to exactly admit the hoop. Theinner side ofthe band is provided with projecting lugs D and K. The lug D is cut away to allow the end ot' the hoop to freely pass. As the hoop is passed around the bale the operator takes the hoop end in one hand andthe point in the other and passes the said point through the transverse aperture cut in the inwardly-projecting and expanded end of the tie. The elasticity of the metal causes the projecting lugs to pass through the-elongated apertures and automically lock the tie.
I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United Sta-tes- A cotton-bale tie, consisting of the hoop A, provided at one end thereof with the elongated apertures B, and at the other en( thereof W'th the transverse aperture 4C, tie Aug K on the inner side ot' the hoop, and the lug D, one side of which is inclined or cut away to allow the end ot' the hoop to freely pass, combined together, as and for the purposes described.
