Description

Dec. 20, 192 7.
l. L. EDWARDS OVERALLS Filed June 22, 1923 ATTORNEY.
Patented Dec. 20, 1927.
UNITED STATES PATE I ISAAC L. EDWARDS, ornunonn, ILLINOIS.
. OVEBALLS,
Application filed June 22, 1923. Serial No. 646,990.
The object of my invention is to provide a pair of overalls which in the most complete embodiment of my invention will have no buttons with all advantages which absence of buttons aifords, which while easily permitting of manipulations that, may be called for in putting them on and removing them or while being worn will be comfortable, sightly in appearance and comfortably sup ported upon the body'and be not costly to manufacture. My invent on consists in whatever is described by or is included'within the terms or scope of the appended claim.
In the annexed drawings: Fig. 1 is a front view of a pair of overalls embodying my invention; 7
Fig. 2 is a perspective view thereof. My overalls shown in the drawing have the usual general trousers construction that is to say a waist portion, 10, and legs, 11, with the customary placket or.fiy 12, ex tending from the crotch to the top of the waist band at the front, there being on each leg at the front a pocket, 13, and at each side a slit, 14, through which the hand may be thrust to enter the pocket of the trousers over which the overalls are worn. At the waist band on the outside are a number of cloth loops, 15, through which is threaded a belt or band, 16, the ends of the band being brought together at the front and one end having a buckle, 17, with a button, 18, on its face while the other end has a buttonhole, 19, through which the button, 18, may be passed when turned to a position parallel with buttonhole, 19, the button and buttonhole when in fastened position being at right angles.
Lying over the front of the overalls when in use and therefore covering the placket, 12, is an apron, 20, which in an upwardly widening form extends from the crotch and is attached to the garment bylines of stitching, 21, that reach from the crotch upward a few inches to the point, 22, above which point such apron is free from the garment so that it may be dropped completely away therefrom so as to hang downward if desired to the position shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1. At the point where the apron alines with the waist band or belt, 16, it has two holes, 23, each of a size and in a position to permit the passage outward through it of one of the loops, 15, so that the belt or band, 16, may overlie the apron in passing through such loop, and thus the apron without the use of any buttons is snugly held in closed position by the belt or band, 16, which also serves to confine the garment about the waist of the wearer and assist in supporting the same. The apron, 20, is prolonged above the waistband to form a bib, 24, which extends over the chest of the wearer and to the upper edge of such bib at opposite sides is attached a strap or band, 25, that is passed around the back of the neck of the wearer and thereby the bib is supported in position and through the bib and the apron support of the garment is contributed to. The strap, 25, at each end has a buckle, 26, similar to the buckle, 17 each of which cooperates with a button-hole, 27, in the bib and besides these two button holes there is a,button-hole, 28, at the middle (these three buttonholes being all that the garment itself contains) for a watch chain of a watch that may be placed in the pocket,
buttons on the garment, there could be button-holes in the waist band for engagement with buttons on the suspenders similar to the buttons, 17, and 26.
What I'claim is: i
A trousers form garment having a fly and an apron extending from the crotch upward and adapted to cover the fly, and permanently attached at the crotch, said apron extending above the waist tapering from the waist downward and being loose from the trousers upward'from a point adjacent the crotch, pockets on the front'of the trousers adjacent the waist portion thereof, said apron being-narrower than the distance between the pocket openings whereby they apron does not hinder access to the pockets, means detachably connecting the apron to the trousers at the waist thereof whereby the apron constitutes a trousers support at the waist, and detachable supporting means connected to the apron above the waist whereby the trousers may be supported from the body of the wearer.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature.
