This invention relates to firearms, and pe tains more particularly to the firing meca nisms of guns of the multiple barrel type.
It is an object oi this invention to provide a mechanism by means of which the barrels of such guns may be discharged selectively by proper manipulation of a single trigger, said trigger and mechanisn being so arranged as to permit firing of the barrels in rapid succession, if desired.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear hereinafter.

Referring to the drawings, the invention has been illustrated as applied to the firing mechanisms of guns of a standard type having the hammers 1 pivotally mounted on the breech block 2 in position to actuate the liring pin 3. Projecting rearvvardly from the breech block 2 and extending along the trigger plate 4 are the usual sears 5 and 6, which in guns of the type illustrated are custom arily lifted by separate triggers to discharge the separate barrels as desired.
According to the present invention, it is proposed to lift the sears selectively by means of a single trigger, thus eliminating many of the disadvantages of the double trigger construction.
Pivotally mounted on the trigger plate 4 and lying beneath the sear 5 is a lever 7 which extends downwardly and rearwardly to cooperate with the trigger S as hereinafter explained. On the opposite side of the gun and also pivotally mounted on the trigger plate 4 is a lever 9 lying beneath the sear 6 and extending downwardly to cooperate with the trigger 8.
The trigger 8 is pivotally mounted on the plate 10 which may be secured to the trigger plate 4 in any suitable manner and comprises a member having a slot 11 forming the detents 12 and 13 through which the pivot pin 14 passes.

Detent 12 entends rearwardly beneath the rear end of lever T, and it will be apparent that when the trigger is tilted downwardly from the normal position shown in Figure l to the position shown in Figure 2, the rear end of the detent 12 will engage the rear end of the lever 7 to lift the same to thereby lit't 1r 5 to discharge one barrel of the gun. 3n the other hand, lever 9 extends downwardly to cooperate with the curved upper face 15 oi the trigger so that when the trigger is tilted upwardly from the normal position to the position shown in Figure 3, lever is raised to lift sear 6 to discharge the other barrel of the gun.
()bviously, by tilting the trigger rapidly first downwardly and then upwardly, or vice versa, the two barrels may be discharged in rapid succession.
It is to be understood that, the invention may be variously modified and embodied within the scope or" the subjoined claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a gun of the multiple barrel type having the usual sears, a trigger, a lever cooperating with each of said sears arranged to contact with different portions of said trigger, whereby motion of said trigger in one direction operates one sear, and motion of said trigger in another direction operates a different sear.
2. In a gun of the multiple barrel type having the usual sears, a trigger, and separate means cooperating with each of said sears arranged to contact with different portions of said trigger, whereby motion of said trigger in one direction operates one sear, and motion of said trigger in another direction operates a different sear.
3. In a gun of the multiple barrel type having the usual sears, a trigger, a pivot for said trigger, and separate means cooperating with each of said sears, one of said means having connection with said trigger in front of said pivot and the other of said means having connection with said trigger behind said pivot, whereby motion of said trigger in one direction operates one sear, and motion of said trigger in another direction operates a different sear.
4. In a gun of the multiple barrel type having the usual sears, a trigger, a pivot for said trigger, and a lever cooperating with each of said sears, one of said levers having connection with said trigger in front of said pivot and the other of said levers having coniii iii)
nection with said trigger behind said pivot, whereby motion of said trigger in one direction operates one sear, and motion of said trigger in another direction operates a different sear.
5. In a gun of the multiple barrel type having the usual sears, a trigger having two cam faces, a lever cooperating with one of said sears and with one of said cam faces, a
10 second lever cooperating with the other of said sears and with the other of said cam faces, whereby motion of said trigger in one direction operates one sear, and motion of said trigger in another direction operates a different sear.
