PENCIL HOLDER.
Applicatonled April 19, 19.26. ySerialV No. 102,912.
My invention relatesto pencil holders and the principal object of my invention is to provide a new and improved pencil holder. In the drawings accompanying this speci! ication and forming a' part of this application, I have shown, for vpurposes of illustration, two forms which my invention-may assume. In these drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation-showing my invention in the form of aV cigar and with 4the pencil retracted, e
`Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure r1 showing the pencil extended,
Figure 3 is a longitudinal section through the center of Figure 1, Y
Figure 4 is a longitudinal section through the center of Figure v2, while f Figures 5 and 6 are views similar to Figures 2 and 4showing my invention in the form of a banana. y i e In Figures 1 through 4 Ihave shown my invention in the form of a cigar 11 fo-rmed of n sponge rubber throughout and provided with a central cylindrical recess 12 extending inwardly from the large end 13 of the cigar 11 and arranged to receive a'pencil 14 norymally held against movement longitudinally A is prevented by the grip of the .holder 11 on.
the pencil 14 resulting from the pressure of the hand holding the holder 11.
In Figures 5 and 6 I have shown my invention in the form of a banana 15 provided with a similar recess 16 extending inwardly,
from its free end 17 and arranged to similarly receive a pencil 18.
It will of course be understood that the pencils 14 and 18 areV preferably of suchv length as to be entirely receivable within the recesses 12 and 16 so that the holder fully protects the point of the pencil. l
It also will be understood that inv the construction herein shown the pencil may be extended in any oneof several ways, but par- V ticularly by compressing Vthe holder rearwardly of the pencil to thus force the pencil out, also that after the pencil has been extended it may be held in extended position by the pressure of the holder .againsty the pencil as the holder is compressed by the hand of the user.v In other words, in the construction herein shown vtheholder is compressible, and the pencil may be projected by compression ofthe holder rearwardly of the pencil, and held projected by `Compression of the holder against the pencil.
From the 'above description it will be `apv .Y
Acourse be obvious` to those skilledL in the art that my invention may simulate objects other than the two herein disclosed, and that various changes may be made from the disclosure herein without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing the advantages thereof.
It will therefore be obvious to those skilled in `the artthat 'thedisclosure herein is illus` trative only and that my vinvention is not limitedV thereto.
I claim:
1. VA pencil holder formed of sponge rub-v ber, fsimulating a previously known object, and provlded witha recessv extending 1nwardl' from the surface thereof and arrange vto receive a pencil; and a .pencil disposed within said recess withdrawable tliere-l from; said object beingVv flexiblev about said recess to cause compression of said object about said recess, by the hand in writingto grip said pencil and maintain said pencil against movement longitudinally of saidre-` cess.
2. A pencil holder formed of sponge rub ber, simulating a previously known elongated object, and provided witha` recess elongated longitudinally ofv` said object and ex` tending inwardly from one end thereof and arranged to receive a pencil; and a pencil disposed within said recess withdrawable therefrom;said object being flexible about sald recess to cause compression of said ob- Y ject` about said recess, by the hand in writinof to Ori vsaidy encil and maintain4 said D7 D.
pencil against movement longitudinally of. lsaid recess. Y e' 1 Intestimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
