J. H. GIBSON HAT HOLDER Filed June 24, 1926 INVENTOR ATTORNEYS Patented Get. 11, 1927. h UNITED STATES 1,645,47-e PATENT OFFICE.
' JAMES HENRY GIBSON, F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
HAT HOLDER.
Application filed June 24,
This invention relates to a hat holder adapted to be attached to a suitable support with which it combines to releasably hold a hat.
The principal object is a hat holder of extremely simple construction, inezgpensive to produce, and capable of application to a suitable support, such as the side door of an automobile, the back of the front seat thereof, or on the backs of theater chairs,
or on any available support suitable for the intended purposes.
With the foregoing, other objects of the invention will appear from the embodiment of the invention which by way of example is described in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanving drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a view illustrating the hat holder of the present invention in use.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 22 of F g. 1.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
The hat holder consists of a device 10, and attaching means 11 for effecting the attachment of the device 10. In the present embodiment, the device 10, and all but the securing elements of the attaching means 11 3 are produced from two pieces of material, one piece being in the form of an elastic strip, and the other piece of an inelastic cord or the like. The opposite ends of the inelastic cord are attached to the elastic strip. Under this arrangement the device 10 will consist of an elastic hat crown engaging section 12 and an inelastic hat crown engaging section 13. The opposite ends of the section 13 may be secured in any suitable manner, and in the present instance are attached in loops 14 formed in the strip of elastic material to respectively receive the ends of the section 13, the said ends then being sewed to the loops.
The attaching means 11 will include the elastic sections 15 beyond the loops 14, which, it will be observed are at opposite ends respectively of the device 10. Suitable fastening elements16 are provided for securing the ends of the elastic sections 15 to any suitable support such as the one designated 17 in the drawing, which represents the inside of a door of an automobile.
The inelastic section 13 of the device 10 is longer than the elastic section 12 in its normal condition, or in other words, before 1926. 'Serial No. 118,399.
it is stretched. A hat is held in place by engaging the sections 12 and 13 with the crown thereof so that the inelastic section 13 will embrace any part of the side portion of the crown as at 18, and the elastic section 12 will be disposed over the top of the crown as indicated at 19. In this way a hat will be effectively and releasably retained in place. If desired the section 12 may be made to embrace the side of the crown of the hat opposite to that embraced or engaged by the section 13. By providing the elastic sections 15, greater facility is had in the hat holding and hat removing operations.
I claim:
1. A hat holder comprising'a device engageable with the crown of a hat to hold the hat in place, said device consisting of an elastic crown engaging section, and an inelastic crown engaging section, said inelastic crown engaging section connected to said elastic crown engaging section; and attaching means for effecting the attachment of said device.
2. A hat holder comprising a device engageable with the crown of a hat to hold the hat in place, said device consistin of an elastic crown engaging section, an an inelastic crown engaging section, said inelastic crown engaging section being longer than the elastic crown engaging section when the latter is in its normal condition; and attaching means for effecting the attachment of said device.
3. A hat holder comprising a device engageable with the crown of a hat to hold the hat in place, said device consisting of an elastic crown engaging section, and an inelastic crown engaging section; and attaching means for effecting the attachment of said device, said attaching means including elastic members, there being one elastic member connected to each side of said device.
4. A hat holder comprising a device engageable with the crown of a hat to hold the hat in place, said device consisting of an elastic crown engaging section, and an in elastic crown engaging section; and attaching means for effecting the attachment of said device, said attaching means including elastic members, there being one elastic member connected to each end of said elastic crown engaging section.
5. The combination with a support, of a hat holder comprising an elastic strip, hat holder comprising an elastic strip, means means attaching each end of said elastic attaching each end of said elastic strip to strip to said support, said elastic strip dissaid support, said elastic strip disposed con- 1 posed contiguous said support, and an intiguous said support, and a flexible inelastic 5 elastic member having the opposite ends member having the opposite ends thereof thereof secured to said elastic strip. secured to said elastic strip.
6. The combination with a support, of a JAMES HENRY GIBSON.
