' l5 and intermediate the ends of a jetting device employed in the removing operation, the nozzle at the bottom of the device being directed downwardly to eXcavate around the nose lof the pile, and those above the bottom beingr directed upwardly to cause an upwardly directed flow of water to"lift `the solids toward the top of the hole. 'As the hydraulic action' of the water against the sides'of the pile vand the sides .of the hole` proceeds, the jetting device .progressively sinks until the bottom ofthe holeis reached.
Then certain pileengagingfmeans become Veffective to secure the jetting device tothe .pile so that an upwardfpullon' thejetting device will raise the pile out of the ground. Thus the present invention distinguishes ma- -1 terially from those jetting devices used for sinking piles, since the invention. is in no 'wise intended as a pile sinking apparatus,`
35 but as a pile removing apparatus.
The novel method by .means of which l accomplish theldesired results, as well as the apparatus employed in practicing the method will be clearly understood by reference to the following description in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which--V Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a pile and a jetting device for carrying out the method contemplated by my invention.
Fig. 2 is an elevational view of .the Jetting device showing the parts in position to support the pile, and i v Fig. 3 is a cross vsectional view through a .slightly modified form of Jetting device.
