SANITARY 'BEDPAN.
This invention relates generally to sanitary covers, the invention having more particular reference to a novel type of sanitary cover used to cover a bed pan such as usedduring 5 an illness confining a person to bed.
The invention has for an object the pro vision'of an improved sanitary cover, for the purpose described, of simple and inex pensive construction.
A further ob ect of the invention'is the provision of an improved sanitary cover embodying certain novel features NVlllCll will render the said device more useful and efficient.
-For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Fig. 1 of the drawings is a. top planview illustrating my improved sanitary cover applied to a. bed pan.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged thereof, as viewed from the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
The construction and design, such as generally used during an'illness confining a person to bed, and is provided with a handlell, a spout 12, and an aperture 13 As here embodied my improved sanitary cover comprises a main element 14, adapted to encircle the above mentioned aperture 13, and to cover the portion of the bed pan adjacent to the aperture 13, and is provided with flaps 15, extending therefrom, formed therein by slotting the main element 14, as
at .16, so as to permit the said flaps 15 to cover the edge of the aperture 13 of the bed pan 10, so as to provide a sanitary cover for the said bed pan.
, The-attaching means provided to attach myimproved device to the bed pan 10, comprises a rod 17, hinged as at 18, at its eX- tremities, to ra'ised elements 19 of the bed pan 10, located under the above .mentioned spout 12. The pin 20 is attached, at its extremities to the supports 21, also attached to the rod 17, and depending therefrom. The flat spring 22, is attached as at 23, by
. 5 rivets or the like to the spout 12, and is posi f tioned so asto allow a finger 24 integral fragment-airy view bed, pan 10, is of common ordinary Application filed October 21, .1926. Serial No. 143,055.
with one side of its free extremity to normally hold the, pin 20 incontact With the spout 12 of the bed pam 10. Projecting fasteners 27 are attached. to the bed pan 10, adjacent to the handle 11, and are'adapted to engageelongated slots 28, formed in the main element 14, the fasteners being insertatble through the enlarged portions 29 ofthe said elongated slots 28. l
"The main element 14 of my improved sanitary cover is provided with extended portions 25, adapted to engage over the spout 12 of the bed pan 10, and terminating in an extremity, or tongue 26, which is positioned between the rod 17 and the pin 20,
between the pin 20 and the spout 12. The latter described construction being such as will permit the attaching means as described above to securely hold my improved sanitary cover in place on the bed pan 10.
It will. be understood that my improved sanitary cover may bemade of heavy paper, fibre paper, or the like, or of any similar cheap material which may be discarded and replaced, being used but once.
lVhile I have above described the preferred form, construction and arrangement of the several elements employed, it will be understood that the device is, nevertheless, susceptible of considerable of resorting to all such changes as may be fairly embodied within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what- I claim as new and desire toprotect by Letmodification therein, and 1 therefore reserve the privilege ters Patent of the United States is as follows:
1. A sanitary cover for bed pans comprising a main element adapted to encircle the aperture of the said bed pan, and to cover the portion adjacent to the said aperture, and provided with flaps extending therefrom, so as to permit the said flaps to cover the edge of the said aperture in the said bed pan, said main element provided with extended portions, adapted to engage the spout of the said bed pan, and terminating in a tongue, elongated slots provided with enlarged portionsformed in the said main element, adapted 'to be engaged by projecting fasteners attached to the said bed pan, as a means of attaching the said sanitary cover to the said bed pan.
2. A sanitary cover for bed pans, comprising a main element adapted to encircle portions, adapted to engage the spout of'the bed pan, and terminating in a tongue adapted to be clamped by clan'lping means to the bed pan, and the main element being 10 also formed with elongated slots with enlarged portions adapted to be engaged by projecting fasteners from the bed pan.
In testimony whereof I have afl'ixed my signature.
