Description

T. cynnw'esh Glue-Put.
Patented May 11, 1875 InVenZ'OT THE GRAPHIC COVPHDTO-LITHJQEM PARK PLACEJLY.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
THOMAS C. HOWES, OF COHOES, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN GLUE-POTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 163,203, dated May 11, 1875; application filed August 6, 1874. a
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS C. HOWES, of Troy, Rensselaer county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Glue-Pots; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a 1 part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a vertical section of my invention; Fig. 2, a perspective view of the same; Fig. 3, a similar view of the inner vessel, and Fig. 4 a perspective view of the outer vessel.
This invention is designed as an improvement upon my former patent, dated April 16, 1872, No. 125,620.
In the manufacture of cast-iron glue-pots the outervessel containing the water has gen erally been constructed with the top drawn in or contracted, so as to form an annular flange, upon which the flange of the inner vessel rests. This has been found necessary in order to form sufficient space between said vessels for the water. The great objection to this construction is the great expense attending its manufacture, as such form of vessel required the use of cores in the molding for casting.
The object of my invention, therefore, is to obviate this difficulty, and thereby greatly cheapening their construction; and to this end my invention consists of forming upon the outer edge of the inner vessel a wide annular flange, by which I am enabled to form the outer vessel without contracting it at its upper end, and at the same time allowing sufficient space for the Water constituting the bath.
In the drawings, A is designed to represent the outer "essel, formedwith the annular flange a, with shoulder I). B represents the inner vessel, which contains the glue or other substance, and has formed upon its upper end a wide annular flange, 0, having a flat annular face, (1, which rests upon the shoulder b of the outer vessel, and has also a curved lip, 6, over which is slipped a slotted flange, f, upon a cover, 0, the same also having a ring or thimble, g, into which the brush-handle is inserted and held.
It will be seen that by providing the inner vessel with the Wide annular flange c a continuous space is obtained from the top to the bottom of the inner vessel, between the same and the outer vessel, without the necessity of contracting the outer vessel, as has been heretofore done, thereby greatly reducing the cost in their manufacture.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A glue-pot consisting of the inner vessel B, having the Wide annular flange c, in combination with the outer vessel A, substantially as specified.
THOS. C. HOWES.
