Description

J. S. M KENZIE EGG TURNING TRAY Nov. 23
Filed Nov. 27. 1925 sol. $2.5M
JOHN S. MACKENZIE, OF DELAWARE, OHIO.
EGG-TURNING TRAY.
Application filed I Tovember 27, 1925.
The present invention is directed to improvements in egg turning trays for incubators.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a device of this character so constructed that the eggs can be periodically turned in an extremely simple and efficient manner.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind provided with a novel form of turning bar which can be operated to turn the eggs by hand or upon movement of the tray upon a table or other suitable support.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a top plan view.
Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional view on line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary longitudinal sectional view.
The tray consists of side and end bars, 1 and 2, respectively, of suitable wood, there being longitudinal slats 3 having their ends secured to the end bars. A wire mesh screen is supported by these slats and constitutes a bottom 4: for the tray and upon which the eggs are supported in transverse rows- Secured to the inner face of each side 1 is a metallic plate 6 which extends the entire length of the side. The upper edge of this plate terminates in a downwardly bent portion 7 to provide a longitudinal guide groove 8, while the lower edge of said plate terminates in a flange 9 which rests upon the adjacent slat 3. The flange terminates in an outwardly bent portion 10 to produce a guide groove 11. In this manner upper and lower guide grooves are provided for both sides of the tray, the purpose of which will appear later- In order to turn the rows of e 's succes Serial No. 71,581.
22 which are spaced from the screen bottom 4 to provide zones 23, into which the bar '13 enters after completing its travel from either end of the tray. It will be observed. that the endmost rows of eggs will abut the plates 22, and since the bar can enter either of the Zones, turning of the endmost rows are assured.
In Figure 1 of the drawing I have shown the tray used in connection with a table or other support 24 and upon which the tray may be placed for cooling and turning the eggs thereon at intervals. This table has sides 25 provided with stops 26 so that the handles 21 will engage therewith when the tray is slid inwardly and at which time the bar 13 will remain stationary and move under each row of eggs to turn the same during such sliding movement ofthe tray. It will be of, course understood that the handles may be grasped and the bar slid to turn the eggs, it being apparent that as the bar is moved it will travel under the eggs with the sand-paper sheet. '15 in a po sition to engage the eggs, thus simultaneously turning all eggsof each row and the rows successively.
What is claimed is 1. An egg turning tray for incubators comprising a frame, said frame having guide grooves associated with its sides, and an egg turning bar having hooks upon its ends slidably engaged with the groove.
2. An egg turning tray for incubators comprising a frame, plates secured to the side bars of the frame and having upper and lower guide grooves carried thereby, angle members having ribs for slidably engaging the upper guide grooves, an e turning bar having its ends secured to the angle members, hooks upon the ends of the bar for slidably engaging the lower grooves.
tot:
8- An egg turning tray having plates upon its ends to provide zones, and an egg turning bar slidably associated with the frame and movable into and out or said zones, as and for the purpose set forth.
e. The combination with a support havingstops carried thereby, of an egg turning tray, an egg turning bar slidably mounted in the tray, and means carried by the bar for engaging said stops to hold the same stationary when the tray is slid upon the support, as and for the purpose set forth.
5. Asa new article of manufacture, an egg turning bar curved transversely and having flanges upon its longitudinal edges, a sheet of material having friction pr0perties engaged upon the convex side of the bar, and retained thereon by said flanges.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature,
JOHN MaoKENZIE.
