Description
1,606,346 G. CONSTANTINESCO Nov. 9
SPEED GOVERNOR Filed May 21, 1925 jhl/enzor Patented Nov. 9; 1926.
@EWEQ SPEED GOVERNOR.
Application filed. May 21, 1925, Serial No. 31,967, and in Great Britain September 16, 1922.
The object of the invention i to make use of the pressure set up in a pipe containing liquid which is caused to surge to and fro, in speed governors. The pressure which 5 varies as'the square of the frequency is caused to act on amotor which operates any suitable form of throttling device or regulator.
inlet valves 7:: Z are situated in the cylinders beyond the travel of the pistons, and connect the cylinders with a source of fluid supply 23. The valves serve the double purpose of compensating for leakage and preventing the pressure within the cylinders 1n their neighbourhood from falling below a certain normal amount which may be atmospheric tween the valves, where it is found that the At or near the middle point bepressure has a constant value for a given frequency of the pistons, 18 an openlng 25 leading to a pipe '71 which is connected to a cylinder 72 provided with a piston 73. The piston is acted upon by a spring 74 and operates any suitable form of throttling or regulating device (not shown) by means of a rod 76 supported, if necessary, by a 7 guide 77.
Clearances are left as shown at m and a between the pistons e and f and their cylinders, and between the piston 73 and its cylinder as shown at 75.- The object ofthese clearances is to allow fluid to leak past the pistons and allow the piston 73 to be moved by the spring 74, otherwise the increase in the volume of fluid within the system would prevent the piston 73 from resuming its original position after the frequency of the pistons e and f has decreased due to the governing action.
hat I claim is 2- A speed governor for a prime mover. comprising in combination a pair of colinear fluid pressure cylinders, a pair of pistons working in the cylinders and actuated in GEORGE CONSTANTINESCO.
