Description

Oct. 26 1926. 1,604,222 A. EVANS STRAIGHTENING AND QURVING DEVIECE Fi led June 5, 1922' ARTHUR EVANS lNVENTOR BY j,
A TORNEY l atented Oct. 25, 1926.
NITED STATES rarer @EFIQE.
ARTHUR EVANS, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR TO THE FISK RUBBER COM- EAN'Y, OF CHIGOPEE FALLS, MASSACHUSETTS, A CORPORATION OF MASSACHU- SETTS STRAIGHTENING AND GURVING DEVICE.
Application filed June 3, 1922. Serial No. 565,655.
In branding hose it is customary to cut thin sheets of raw rubber the same size as the metal brands and to curve these brands to the contour of the hose before applying them to the hose. During vulcan zation the rubber softens and fills in the relief in the brands so that the brands adhere tothe hose after the cross-wrapper has been removed and become greatly distorted in being removed making it necessary to straighten them before they can be recurved. My invention provides a mechanism constructed to cruve these brands and also to straighten them before re-using. In the drawings accompanying this specification and forming a part thereof, I have shown, for purpose of illustration, one form which my invention may assume. In these drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of this illustrative embodiment;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device for curving the hose brands; and
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the block for straightening the hose brands.
The device herein disclosed comprises a frame 11 having uprights 12 carrying a table 10 and cross braces 13 carrying a lever support 1 1. Removably mounted upon the table 10 is a die block 15 held in position by guides 16 and provided with a circular groove 17 adapted to receive the die plunger 18, which in turn is secured by a set screw 20 to a plunger 19 slidably mounted'in a bearing 26 supported by a pair of arms 27 secured to an upright 28 mounted on the frame 11. From a pedal 25 carried by a lever 24 pivoted to the lever support 14 at 32 the plunger 19 is operated by means of a lever 22 pivoted to the upright 28 at 29,
operated from the lever 24 by a link 23, and in turn operating the plunger 19 by a link In operation the pedal 25 is pressed downward causing the link 23 to swing the arm 22 which in turn acts through the link 21 and plunger 19 to force the die plunger 18 into the groove 17 of the die block 15, thereby curving the brand 30 shown in Fig. 2.
In strai hten ng the hose brands the die block 15 may be inverted and the block 31, shown in 3, used instead of the die plunger 18, whereupon depression of the pedal 25, in the same manner as for curving the brands, will force the block 31 against the die block 15 to straighten the brands.
For curving brands for hose of different diameters, other die blocks 15 and die plungers 18 may be substituted. The disclosure here n is illustrative and my invention is not limited thereto.
I claim 1. A device of the character described comprising an invertible die block having a groove on one side and a plane surface on the other side, a plunger adapted to selectively receive a curved or a plane faced die, and means to reciprocate said plunger.
2. A device of the character described comprising an invertible die block having a groove on one side and a planesurface on the other, a support therefor, a plunger adapted to interchangeably receive a curved or a plane faced die co-operating with said die block and means to reciprocate said plunger. 4'
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to the above specification.
ARTHUR EVANS.
