This invention relates to bending machines and particularly machines for bending valves on inner tubes.
Inner tubes of the larger sizes such as for balloon tires are frequently provided with ifi-valves for use on certain types of Wheels.
It has heretofore been proposed to vulcanize the valves onto the tubes so as to be integral therewith. Where 8-valves are employed, is owing to the diificulty in stripping the tubes from the mandrels it has beenproposed to provide the valves with only one bend and to complete the bending of the valves to shape subsequent to vulcanization of the tube.
The present invention has for its general object the provision of a machine for bending valves secured in inner tubes whereby they may be formed to the desired S-shape.
The foregoing and other more particular objects are obtained by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings and described below. It is to be understood, however, that the invention is not limited to the specific form thereof shown and described.
Of the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a machine embodying the invention shown in the operation of bending an inner tube valve.

Figure 3 is a plan thereof;
Figure l is a View showing the valve as supplied to the tire maker;
Figure 5 is a detail section showing the bending operation of the machine on line 55 of Figure 6; and
Figure 6 is a part section on line 6-6 of Figure 5.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 10 designates a suitable supporting frame having vertically adjustable on its front enda support 11 which extends forwardly therefrom to receive an inner tube 12 thereover, the tube having a valve 13 therein which is to be bent to S-shape by the machine.
For clamping the tube on the support 11 with the valve 13 in position for bending, a pair of clamping arms 14, 1 1. are provided each arm being secured on a shaft 15 ournaled on frame 10 and operable to swing the arms 1% toward and from each other and toforce.
and the valve positioned between the free ends ward tube support 11 by means of arms 16, 16 operable by a'single yoke 17 connected by a link 18 to a pedallever'19 normally urged upwardly by a spring 20 to move clamping arms 14, 14c away'from support 11. The adjacent free ends of arms 14 are provided with grooves 14%, 1% whereby the arms will embrace the valve 13 close to its base, and-will hold it against shifting under the bending The bending mechanism comprises a reciprocable slide 21 carrying a bending roller 22 the periphery of whichis grooved as at 23 so that the flanges 2 1, 24: defining the groove will embrace the valve stem 13 and thus bend it in the desired direction. The slide 21 is operable by a double acting piston 25 connected thereto and reciprocable in a fluid pressure cylinder 26 having fluid supply connection 27 and 28 respectively at its opposite ends; supply of fluid to either end of the cylinder being providedby'a pipe 29 through a manually controlled valve 30 having an operating lever 31.
It will be apparent that an exceedingly simple device has been provided for securing the objects of the invention. It will also appear that modifications of the invention may be resorted to without departing from the spirit thereofor the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is: V
1. Apparatus'for bending valves on tubes, said apparatus comprising means for supporting a tube therein, means for clamping the valve in fixed position on the support, said means comprising arms movable into valve embracing relation, a bending roller provided with valve embracing flanges movable over the support, said support and said roller being adjustable relatively toward and from each other and toward and from the clamping arms. Apparatus for bending valves on tubes, said apparatus comprising means for supporting a tube therein, means for clamping the valve in fixed position on the support, said means comprising arms movable into valve embracingrelation, a bending roller provided with valve embracing flanges movable over the support, said support and said roller being adjustable relatively toward and from the clamping arms.

Apparatus for bending valves on tubes, said apparatus comprising means for supporting a tube therein, means for clamping the valve in fixed position on the support, a bending roller provided with valve embracing flanges movable over the support, and means for moving said roller in a straight line transversely of said valve for bending the latter.
4. Apparatus for bending valves on tubes, said apparatus comprising meansfor supporting a tube therein, means for clamping the valve in fixed position on the support, said means comprising arms movable into valve embracing relation, a bending roller movable over the support, said support and said roller being adjustable relatively toward and from the clamping arms 5. said apparatus comprising means for supporting a tube therein, means for clamping the valve in fixed position on the support, a bending roller, and means'for moving said roller in a straight line transversely of said valve for bending the latter.
6. Apparatus for bending tire valves or the like comprising a support, means for clamping the valve on the support including members movable in embracing relation to the valve stem above the base of the valve, and means movable into engagement with the valve above said members for bending the valve at apoint above said members.
