From the edge of the grate projects the usual stem m, for receiving the instrument, which may be either vibrated or tilted, the grate, when tilted, turning on the head of the pivot D, and when vibrated turning with the pivot on the projection H.

IMPROVEMENT lN GRATES FOR HEATING-STOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 159,693, dated February 9, 1875; application led October 7, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES G. MAR- SHALL, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Heating-Stoves, of which the following is a speciiication:
The object of my invention is a simple and effective manner of so connecting a grate t0 a stove that the former can be agitated or tilted, as circumstances may require; and this object I attain in the manner which I will now proceed to describe, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical section of my improved grate, and Fig. 2 a plan view of the same.
A is the cast-iron ring, forming that portion of a stove which rests on the casing of the ash-chamber, and which supports the fire-pot and the casing surrounding the same. B is the grate, having in the center pendent lugs a, hinged to the head of a pivot, D, which is supported by, passes through, and is arranged to turn in, a projection, H, on the ring A, this projection consisting, in the present instance, of two arms, b b, meeting at the central pivotbearing f. I do not claim, broadly, a grate turning upon bearin gs in a movable center-piece supported by an arm projecting beneath the grate; but
I claim- The combination of the grate B, its stem m, and` pendent lugs a, and the pivot D, hinged to the said lugs, and turning in a projection, H, on the ring A, all as set forth.
