  • This invention relates to garbage receivers and the general object thereof is to provide an improved sanitary garbage receiver which may be built under the drain board of a sink and extended up through the drain board flush with the upper surface thereof and outwardly through the wall of the house or inwardly through the front wall of the sink, so that the receiver will be in a most convenient location in the kitchen for receiving garbage, and arranged so that the garbage may be removed from outside or inside of the house, thus making it unnecessary to carry the garbage through the kitchen out of the house.

AUTOMATIC REFUSE RECEIVER.
Application filed June 15, 1925. Serial No. 37,182.
This invention relates to garbage receivers and the general object thereof is to provide an improved sanitary garbage receiver which may be built under the drain board of a sink and extended up through the drain board flush with the upper surface thereof and outwardly through the wall of the house or inwardly through the front wall of the sink, so that the receiver will be in a most convenient location in the kitchen for receiving garbage, and arranged so that the garbage may be removed from outside or inside of the house, thus making it unnecessary to carry the garbage through the kitchen out of the house.
Another object of this invention is to provide a garbage receiver which extends through the drain board and inwardly through the front wall of the sink, so that the garbage may be removed therefrom from the inside of the house.
A more particular object is to provide in a garbage receiver of the character above stated, a garbage trap arranged below the drain board of the sink and above the garbage receptacle. with an entrance door in the drain board and an exit door in the bottom of the trap, and with means whereby, when the entrance door is opened, the exit door will be closed, so that the trap may receive and hold garbage, and when the entrance door is closed the exit door will be opened to discharge the garbage from the trap into the garbage receptacle or can therebelow.
A further object is to provide proper ventilating and flushing means in a garbage receiver of the character stated.
Other objects and advantages will appear hereinafter, and while I disclose herein a preferred form of construction I do not limit myself to such form because it may be embodied in other forms, and it is to be understood that in and by the claim of the specification I intend to cover my invent-ion in whatever form it may be embodied.
Referring to the drawings Figure 1 is a fragmentary sectional view of a house showing my garbage receptacle built in under the drain board of the kitchen sink, and extending upwardly through the drain board and out through the wall of the house.
Figure 2 is a transverse vertical section of my receptacle taken on the line 22 of Figare 1.

Referring in detail to the drawings,
, 1 inc icates a housing which is located under the drain boa-rt 2 of a kitchen sink 3 and extends through the wall l; of the house, the outer side of the housing being normally closed by a door 5 which is hinged to one side of the housing at 6 and may be held closed by a hasp '4" and pin 8. flange 1 and the edges of the cover being formed with (reacting beveled surfaces in and 15) which form a tight seal between the flange and cover when the cover is closed. The cover 17 rests flush with the upper surface of the drain board and is formed with an undercut depression 20 in the upper surface thereof into which the fingers may be inserted for swinging open the cover.
In the neck 9 is placed a garbage trap 21 through the opening 22 in the frame 11, there being an external flange 23 on the upper end of the receptacle for resting upon the internal frame flange 16 and suspend ing the receptacle in the frame. The lower end of the receptacle 21 is normally closed by a door 24 hinged at one edge at 25 to the inside of one side of the receptacle under a beveled shoulder 26 and engaging at the opposite edge of said shoulder on the lower edge of the opposite side wall of the receptacle, the shoulder being formed on the inside of all four walls of the receptacle. The inner surfaces of said side walls converge inwardly slightly to the shoulder 26 as in dicated at 28.
To the upper side of the door 24:, in a lug 30 on the door, are hingedly connected the ends of a link hanger 31, the upper end of which hanger normally engages a hook on the lower end of a hanger rod 33 pivotally connected at 34; to the under side of the door 17, whereby when the entrance door 17 of the trap is opened the exit door will be closed so that the trap may receive and hold garbage, and when the entrance door closed the exit door will be opened to discharge the garbage from the trap into garbage receptacle or can 35 in the housing 1 below the trap. A hook 36 is provided on the trap 21 to be engaged by the upper end of the hanger 31 to hold the door 2 closed when said hanger is disengaged from the hook 32 on the lower end of the hanger rod 33, and to allow the entrance door 17 of the trap to be opened and closed independently of the exit door 2 L.
Garbage may then be dropped into the trap 21 upon opening the door 17, and when the trap is filled the hanger 31 may be disengaged from the hook 36 and the door 2st lowered to empty the garbage from the receptacle into the garbage can 35.
The garbage can 35 may, upon opening the door 5, be removed from the housing 1 from outside of the house.
In the inner side of the walls of the outer end of the housing 1 is formed a continuous groove 37 in which is placed a gasket 38 saturated with poison to exterminate vermin. A shelf 39 is secured to the inside of one of the vertical walls of the housing on which shelf is placed a receptacle 40 containing disinfectant.
A drain and trap a1 may be fitted in the bottom wall of the housing 1 to discharge any liquid in the housing.
A pipe ventilator 42 may extend upward- 1 from the top of the housing 1 and through the wall 4 of the house. A ventilator i3 may also be provided in the door 5 to ventilate the housing.
In the modified form of my invention shown in Figure 5 the doors 17 and 24 are permanently connected by means of a rod 45 and levers and 17 and hinge 25, said rod being connected at its ends to one end of said levers respectively, and the doors 17 and 2% being secured to the other end of said lever t6 and the door at being supported by said lever 27, respectively. The lever 4L6 is fulcrumed at 17 which forms the hinge of the door 17. The lever 47 is fulcruined at 25 to the upper wall of housing 1 which fulcrum forms the hinge of the door.

Another modified form of my invention is shown in Figures (i'and 7, wherein the frame 11. is formed with a plurality of supporting members 49 to rest upon a suitable frame 52, the frame 11 being secured down upon the frame 52 by the clip 51 and staples 5a, and the entire assembly grouted together, as shown.
A faucet 18 is positioned in the housing 1 and is connected to a water supply main, not shown, to flush out said housing, and provide water to fill the trap 41, to prevent gases from passing up therethrough.
I claim In a garbage receiver, a trap, an entrance door hinged above the trap, an exit door hinged at the bottom of the trap, a link hanger connected at its lower end to said exit door, and a hanger rod connected at its upper end to said entrance door and formed with a hook on its lower end for engaging the upper end of said link whereby the exit door is caused to close when the entrance door is opened and the exit door is caused to open when the entrance door is closed, and a hook on the inside of the trap to be engaged by the upper end of said link hanger, to hold said exit door closed when said hanger is disengaged from said hanger rod hook, and to enable said entrance doorto be opened and closed independently of said exit door.
