Be it known that I, WILLIAM NEIL, a citizen of the United States,i residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement inCaps or Closures, of

which the following is a full, clear, concise,

and exact description, v reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.

The invention, relates and is primarily designedto provide a construct-ion capable of being actuated by the receptacle to-be capped to'cause the closure to'be arranged to allow the receptacle t-o'be capped.

The elements forming the caps or'closures 22 are preferably. stamped from a suitably shaped blank which when formed is shaped to produce the hinge part 23, the neck'24i which is designed to rest upon either of the members .17 and 18, and is further formed to provide the inverted cup shaped part 25 which caps the receptacle and in addition has the projecting part 26 which is bent upwardly and arranged so that it is in the path or" the spout of a receptacle as the receptacle is arranged in one of the compartments of the container. This last mentioned portion provides a means for automatically raising the cap so as to permit the end of the spout to be located to allow the inverted cup shaped part to cap said end of the'spout when the receptacle is arranged in one of the compartments of the container.

' From the foregoing description of the structure it is manifestthat a simple and efiicient device is produced whereby a receptacle may be automatically capped'upon its insertion into a container and which capping device readily permits the removal of the receptacle therefrom, also that the structure will effectively prevent water, dirt and dust from finding its way to the interior of the receptacle when the capping device is arranged in capping position.

It is furtherevident that the arrangement is such that one or all of the capping devices may be ra sed thereby permitting an indiranged,

vidual receptacle to be inserted or removed maining capping devices, also that all of the capping devices may be arranged and held in a position which allows the insertion and removal of said receptacles without their engaging with the capping devices.

Having thus described the invention what I claim and desire to cover by Letters Pat'- ent is: i

1. In a device of the character described, the combination of a container in which a receptacle is'adapted to be reinovably arranged, means providing a closure for the receptacle when said receptacle is locatedjin the container, said closure having means engage'able by the receptacle upon the introduction of the receptacle into the container for actuating the closure to cap said receptacle.

2. In a device of, the character described, the combination of a container in which a receptacle is adapted to be 'reinovably arranged, means providing a closure for the ceptacle into the container for actuating the closure to cap said receptacle.

In a device of the character described, the combination of a container in which a receptacle is adapted to be remov'ablyarranged, means providing a hinged closure for the receptacle when said receptacle is located in the container, said closure having means engageable by the receptacle upon the introduction of the receptacle into the con tainer for actuating the closure to cap said receptacle.

5. In a device of the character described, the combination of a container in which a receptacle is adapted to be removably arranged, horizontally arranged means providing a closure for the receptacle when said receptacle is located in the container, said closure having an extension engageable-by the receptacleupon the introduction of the receptacle into the container for actuating the closure to cap said receptacle.

6. In adevice of the character described, the combination of a container in which a receptacle is adapted to be removably arhorizontally arranged pivoted means providing a closure for the receptacle when said receptacleis looated in the con-' portion and being provided with means en gageable by the receptacle upon the introduction of the receptacle into the container for actuating the closure to cap said receptacle.

8. In a device of the character described, the combination of a container in which a receptacle is adapted to beremovably are ranged, a hinged closure for the receptacle;

said closure havingan inverted cup-shaped portion and being provided with an angular extension engageable by the receptacle upon the introduction ofthe receptacle into the container for actuating the closure to cap said receptacle.

9. A capping device having means whereby it may be pivo-tally secured in position, said device havingan inverted cu shaped portion for capping the receptac e and having an upwardly extending angularly arranged portion engageable by the receptacle to cause engageable by the recep the'movement of the capping device toallow the'receptacle to be capped;

In a device of the character described the combination of a container in which a receptacle is adapted to be arranged by an endwise movement of the receptacle relative to the container, a capping device located in the path of movement of the opposite end of the receptacle when said receptacle assumes an uprightposition and said capping device having means for automatically actuating the capping device upon engagement of the receptacle and said means to cause said last mentioned end of the receptacle to be capped. v r- In witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe .my name this Gth'day of June A.
