CHARLES W. KIBSCH, OF STURGIS, MICHIGAN.
-MASTER DRAPEBY CARRIER 180R CURTAIN R0158.
.npplicatio'n filed August 6, 1925. Serial No. 48,485.
To all rv/2.0m it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES W. KmsoH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sturgis, in the county of St. Joseph and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in 'Master Drapery Carriers for Curtain Rods, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to what are known as master-slides or master-carriers for cur tain and drapery rods and has for its object to provide devices of this character, which, when brought to the position wherein the meeting edges of a pair of curtains or draperies' are brought together, will effect an overlap of said meeting edges to thereby obviate gap between said meeting edges.
The invention is variously embodied to adapt the same to differently positioned curtain or drapery rods of; the same cross-sectional shape and may be otherwise embodied to adapt it to curtain or drapery rods of cross-sectional shape or type differing from the particular shape shown in the accompanying drawings.
In the accompanying drawings illustratin the invention T T ig. 1 is a rear elevation of a conventional type of hollow curtain rod equippedwith master-carriers or slides constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the master-slides.
Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Fi 1.
Fig. 5 is a bottom plan View of a rod equipped with master-slides constructed in accordance with the invention, the rod being of the type adapted, to be secured to the top' wall of a window casing or the like.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of one of the master-slides shown in Fig. 5.
The master-slides or carriers illustrated in the drawings are constructed to fit the conventional flat, C- shaped rods 1 and 2, each of which is provided with a continuous longi- I The device comprises the body-portion 5 consisting of an oblong plateprovided at its ends with flanges 6 each of whlch has recesses 7 in its sides to receive the flanges bordering the slot of the curtain rod of the type shown. Where said flanges of the curtain rod are vertically disposed, the masterslides or carriers must; be made right and left, respectively, as concerns the novel feature thereof. The latter consists in the side edge flange 8 of the plate 5 which is provided alongits outer edge with av flange 9 extending parallel with but in the opposite direction from the plate 5 and includes the tongue 10 projecting quite a distance beyond one end of the plate 5 and the flange 8. The latter and said tongue 10 are proyidedwith perforations 11 for attaching a curtain or drape.
A pair of Said slides or carriers consists of body portions 5 as. above described each of whichhas a flange 8 equipped with the flange 9 and tongue 10 but 'wherein the flanges 8 extend in respectively opposite directions so that the fianges'9 and tongues 10 become spaced from eaclrother as shown in Figs. 2 and 4 with the tongues 10 extend ing in opposite directions. Thus, when the plates 5 of a pair. of said devices are disposed end to end, the tongue 10 of one thereof will be disposed opposite the plate 5 of the other thereof. As the meeting ed e portions ofapai'r of curtains or drapes epend from the outer or free ends of the. tongues, the said edge portions will be caused to overlap each other appreciably when the slides or carriers are disposed as last above set forth.
Where the devices are to be used on rods having the longitudinal slots in their lower faces, as shown in Fig. 5, the body portions, includin the plates 12 and end flanges 13 provide with side edge recesses 14, are supported substantially equally upon the flanges 4. Each plate 12 is provided with a side edge flange 15 including the projecting portion or tongue 16, the tongues of two of said devices being disposed in opposed relation by properly relatively positioning the slides or carriers on the rod.
Preferably the said slides orcarriers are provided with means of engaging the same against slippage with a cord, said means constituting no part of the present invention. They consist, in the case of the plates 5, of three projections 17 and 18, there being two of the former and one of the latter, the projection 18- being opposed to and ofiset from the projections 17. "The cord is adaptare provided in the flanges thereof op-'- ed to be trained over a projection 17, thenover, the projection 18 and .then' over the other projection 17 and by then placing the cord under tension, the portions thereof engaged with said projections will be wedged between the latter and the plate 5 and be, in
'part, crowded into the slots opposing said recesses. 0
The plates 12 are provided with the longitudinal slots 19 and a pair of recesses 20 posite said slots.- Said recesses 20 border a projection 21 and have contracted mouth portions into which loops of the cord, drawn through the slots 19 are forced. The-sharp edges of the walls of. the slots 19 and recesses 2O serve to prevent slippage of the cord.
Obviously, the device of this invention may be suitably embodied to adapt it for any style or type of curtain or drapery rod other than the articular type shown, without departing r011? the invention defined in the appended claims.
I claim as my invention 1. Draper carriers for curtain rods adapted to e secured to the meeting edge to thereby effect an overlap of the meeting edges of the curtains or drapes.
2. Drapery carriers each including a body portion adapted for travel longitudinally of a curtain rod, a member -on each carrier to which the upper edge of the meeting edge portion of a curtain or .drapery of a pair of the latter is ada ted to be secured, each of said members inc uding a ortion projecting beyond the end of thebo y portion thereof, said projecting portions of a pair of said carriers disposed in opposed relation for overlapping each other when the carriers are brought together to thereby effect an overlap of the meeting edge portions of the pair of curtains or draperies suspended in part from said carriers, said projecting portions spaced laterally from each other.
3. Drapery carriers for curtain rods each including a body portion .ada ted to be mounted for movement longitu inally of a curtain rod and a portion to which the upper edge portion of the meeting edge portion of one-curtain of a pair of the latter is adapted to be secured, said last-named portion of saidcarrier including a tongue projecting beyond one end of thebody portion and into overlapping relation to the other of a pair of said carriers when the latter are brought together to thereby cause the meeting edge portions of a pair of curtains or drapes suspended in part from said carriers to overlap, said tongues being spaced from each other laterally.
