IMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-PIPE ELBOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 58,005, dated Dccember 22, 1874 application filed April 25, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL SMITH, of
Brooklyn, E. D., in the county of Kings and sponding parts.
The object of my invention is to construct a strong and substantial stove-pipe elbow of rectangular shape from one piece of metal, and without the use of solder, so that the same can be manufactured more rapidly and economically.
The invention consists in holding the connected parts of an elbow-pipe together by straps, forming a part of and extending from one and riveted to the other, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawing, A represents the blank for forming myrectangular stove-pipe elbow, being stamped out of suitable sheet metal, as shown in Fig. 1. It is produced of two symmetrical parts, 13, which extend, with curved inner sides, from the short central connecting part in the symmetrical axis of the blank to the outer rectangular sides of the blank. One of V the parts, B, is provided, by preference, with three, more or less, lugs or ears, 0, which extend radially to the curved part, and are intended to be riveted to the sides and lower part of the curved side of the second part, B, of the elbow. Each blank section B is formed in tubular pipe shape, and seamed at the edges. The pipe-sections are then bent toward each other on the communicating central piece, until the curved edges of both sec tions come in accurate contact with each other. The connecting-ears are then riveted to the adjoining section, and the joint made more complete and tight by means of a formingroller, in the usual manner.
A neat and strong elbow is thus produced in a simple and rapid manner, and a saving of time, labor, and material produced. I
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is
An elbow-pipe having flap projections O on one part, and held by rivets to the other part, as shown and described.
SAMUEL SMITH.
