UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HANS IVERSON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEI VIENT IN WARDROBE-BEDSTEADS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 157,719, dated December 15, 1874 application filed April 19, 1873.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, HANS IVERSON, of Chicago, Illinois, have invented an Improved Parlor-Bedstead, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of one half, closed; Fig. 2, a vertical central cross-section, closed; Fig. 3, a side elevation, the several parts being opened to be used as a bedstead.
.In the drawings, A represents a board, to each end of which is properly secured a piece, B. These end pieces B furnish legs for the bedstead when it is closed or folded, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, in which position it has the appearance of a sideboard or writing-desk. They also cover and conceal the lower ends of the two parts 0 D when closed, and form a part of the side rails of the bedstead when ready for use as such, as shown in Fig. 3. The two parts 0 D of the bedstead are hinged, one to the front, the other to the rear, edge of A, and each has a bottom, two side pieces, and an end piece. The bottom of O, which forms the front of the piece of furniture when closed, I make of two paneled doors, E. a is the end piece of 0. To a is hinged b, which serves as a foot-board for the bedstead, and can be turned down within 0 when the parts are folded. c is hinged to the front or lower edge of a. It serves as legs for this part of the bedstead, (see Fig. 3,) and when the parts are closed it is in the position shown in Fig. 2. It can be used as a writing-table, being brought into the position shown by dotted lines a, Fig. 2. e is the end piece of the part D. To its rear edge is hinged f, which serves as legs for this part of the bedstead. To the front edge of e is hinged d, which serves as a head-board for the bedstead, and also closes the upper end of D when the parts are in the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2. g are ornamental pieces secured to the lower end of O and D. The lower part of each piece 9 passes under A when the article is used as a bedstead.
If at any time it should be desired to use this article for other purposes than a bedstead, its construction is such that it can be easily done. The bedding having been removed, access can be had to the interior by means of the doors E, and the part b can be secured in the position shown by dotted lines b, furnishing in the upper part of D a receptacle for stationcry and other articles.
Casters should be applied to the'lower ends 71. of B. i is a knob for the door E.
What I claim as new is as follows:
1. The parts b c, forming the foot-board and legs for the bedstead and writing-table and front for the bureau, hinged as described, in combination with the parts a and O, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. The parts D, having the hinged parts d and f, serving as legs and head-board for the bed, in combination with the parts B G and a b c, all constructed for use as and for the purpose herein specified.
HANS IVERSO'N. Witnesses:
E. A. WEsT, 0. W. BOND.
