Description

. F. C. HALL TOILET RACK Filed Jan. 16, 1924 Patented Mar. 9, 12.2%.
FRANCIS C. HALL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
TOILET RACK.
Application filed January 16, 1924. Serial No. 686,573
To (ZZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS C. HALL, residing in New York city, in the State of New York, a citizen of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Tmproveinents in Toilet Racks, of which the following is a specification.
The principal object of my invention is to provide a variously useful, simple, economically constructed and convenient device which may be removably attached to the head of a bed, a chair or any projecting edge of a support, or else which may be stood upon a table, or other level surface. the device being so constructed as to support numerous articles for personal use, and folded flat when not in use. 1
Other objects will appear from the subjoiued specification and claims:
In the drawings, forming a part of this specification Fig. 1 is a frontelevation of the device shown in position to be supported directly on a table. or other level surface,- the supporting hook being shown in its lowered or folded position; and in dotted lines are shown representations of a watch hung on the device, and a tumbler in a shelf cup.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device shown in Fig. 1 with the supported articles lQlnOVQd. v
Fig. 3 is a detail of the blank from which is formed the central supporting part used in the construction of the device.
Fig. at is a detail, in vertical section, with parts broken away, showing means of assembly of the legs and hook to the central element.
Fig. 5 is a detail, looking from the rear, showing the assembly construction.
Fig. 6 is a similar view looking from below.
In the drawings, 15 is a central supporting member preferably made of sheet metal, the blank from which it is formed being shown in 3. This blank is so shaped that the arms 18 provide supports for small metal cups or receptacles 28, these receptacles being secured to the said arms by means of bolts or rivets passing through screw-thread.- ed perforations 19, at each end of the arms 18, and into the bottom of each cup, as shown.
The projection 16 of the support 15 is provided with an opening 20 near the line of its juncture with the arms 18, and this portion 16 is bent upwardly so as to probrought together a 31 to form a standard or support, the free ends of which are stepped into the hole or opening 20 forming a seat therefor, the upper portions pressing closely against the upright portion 16.0f the central part 15 so that they will assume an upright position. A mirror 27 is pivotally mounted on the upright projecting ends of the wires 25, the said wires having a sufficient tension to grip the sides of the mirror and hold it tightly so that the mirror may be turned and held substantially at any angle.
Rear leg portions 14: are formed from suitable wire which is bent. to the shape shown in Fig. 1, wherein the lower portions are curved to form suitable feet upon which to rest; the legs are connected by abridge portion which is crimped at its center to form a lug 31, to abut and rest against the rear surface of the upright-portion 16 of the central supporting element 15 when the legs 14 are in position to support the device on atable. The leg portion 14 is operated as an easel leg or support and the bridge portion thereof on each side of the central lug 21 is encircled by the arms 17 of the part 16, Fig. 3, in order to form an effective hinge structure.
The forward legs 24 of the device consist also of a wire bent to the shape shown and thus form supporting feet which are pivotally connected to the central portion 15, its
bridge being encircled by the arms 23 when bent thereover, thus forming av hinge structure.
A lug 30 is formed by crimping the wire at the center of the bridge which lug engages the underside of the central projecting lug 21 which is situated between the hinge portions 23. A supporting hook 10 is formed from a wire which is bent to the form clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the parts thereof being indicated by the numerals 10, 11, 12 and 13, the depending portions 12 being connected by a cross portion 11. The ends of the parts 12 being each turned over at 13 to form hinge portions, and they are caused to encircle the bridge portion of the leg 14 at points outside of the hinge connections V 17 and just inside of the depending legs l i.
At the end of the lug 21 is pivoted a small hook 22 to move in a horizontal direction, upon which maybe hunga Watch or other article as shown in Fig. 1.
As changes of construction could be made within the scope of my invention, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown 1n the accompanying drawings be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Havmg thus descrlbed my invention what i I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In an article of the class described, the combination of a central supporting member provided with a horizontal and ver ti'cal port-ion, a leg member hinged to the upper end or the vertical portion, and a leg member hinged to the outer end 01 the horizontal portion, said leg members being each provided with a lug adjacent the respective pivots to engage the central suport'ing member to limit and hold the said Bags in their outward supporting positions.
2. In an article of the class described, the combination of a "centralsupporting meet her provided with a horizontal and vertical portion, 'a leg member hinged to the upper end of the vertical portion, and a leg mem- 7 her hinged to the outer end ol? the horizontal portion, and a hook member pivotalljv connected to the first mentioned leg member, the respective leg members being provided with means to engage the central member to limit their outward movement in one direction, and the hook member engaging the hinge of the leg to prevent its sidewise movement.
but permitting a tree swinging movement thereof. 1
3. In an article oft the class described, the combination of a "central supporting member and resting against the vertically disposed portion thereof.
4. In an article of the class described, the combination of a central supporting member provided with a horizontal and vertical portion, each of said portions being provided with a hinge element, a legmember pivotally connected to each of said hinge elements,
each of said leg members being provided with lugs to engage the neutral supporting member to limit their outward movements, and a cup shaped device secured to the h-orizontally disposed portion of the central member, the. central supporting member being provided with supporting devices.
5. In an article of the class described, the
combination'of a central supporting member provided with a horizontal and vertical portion, a leg member hinged to the upper end of the vertical portion, and a leg member hinged to the outer end'ot the horizontal portion, means on the respective leg members to engage the central member to limit their outward movements, a supporting hook secured at the front of the central member, and a pivot for said hook to attend latera' movement thereof.
