910.157,489. Patented Dec.8,1874.A
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHAUNCEY BUCKLEY AND LODOWICK L. SAWYER, OF MERID'EN, CONN.
IMPROVEMENT IN CURTAIN-FIXTURES.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 157,489, dated December 8, 1874; application filed March 5, 1874.
CAsE B.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that we, OHAUNOEY BUOKLEY and LODOWICK L. SAWYEE, of Meriden, in the county ot' New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Curtain-Fixtures; and we do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reti erence markedthereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and Which said drawings constitute part of this specilication, and represent, in-
Figure l, a top view; Fig. 2, an end View, and in Fig. 3, a'longitudinal section.
This invention relates to an improvement in the device for which Letters Patent of the United States were granted to Chauncey Buckley, (one ot' these applicants,) dated February 1S, 1873, the object of the present invention being to simplify and cheapen the construction; and it consists in making the barrel of the pulley and one head, the screw, and pivot in one piece, the other head of the pulley serving as the friction-plate, all as more fully hereinafter described.
A is theroll; B, a disk or plate lyingagainst the end of the roll, its edge provided with one or more teeth or notches, a. C is the other head of the pulley, on which is formed a pivot or trunnion, d; and upon the inside of this head the barrelD is formed, and on the barrel a threaded screw, E, a shoulder, f, being formed between the barrel and the screw. The screw is passed through the plate B into the roll; and between the shoulder f and the plate B the friction disk or plate l is placed,
'so that the bearing or friction upon the plate B may be adjusted by turning the screw E to a greater or less distance into the roll. E is the bracket, in which is an elongated seat, F, for the pivot d to rest in; and from the bracket an arm, G, extends in, as seen in Fig. l, so as to engage a tooth or notch on the -plate B, which will hold the roll to support the curtain in any position; but the friction on the plate yields, so that taking hold of the curtain it may be drawn down, the roll turning While the plate B remains stationary, and the turning of the roll Wlnds the cord upon the barrel D; then, when the cord is drawn upon to Wind the curtain, the roll moves forward in the elongated seat F, so as to free the plate B from the arm G, and prevent any friction or obstruction in Vrolling up the curtain, this Voperation being substantially the same as in the Buckley patent before referred to.
We do not claim any ofthe parts described,
except as in the combination hereinafter specied, the parts in themselves being old.
We claim as our inventionrlhe combination otthe roller A, barrel D, toothed plate B, and friction-plate t, substantially as set forth.
oHAUNcEY BUGKLEY. 4 LODOWICK L. SAWYER. Witnesses:
