BLADE HOLDER.
Application fled September 14, 1925. Serial No. 56,361.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that. I, FRANK J. LOVIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mahnomen, in, the county of Mahnomen and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Blade Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention has reference to a holder for razor blades and aims to provide a simple construction whereby the blades may be efl'ectively held for holding or for cutting purposes.
To the attainment of the foregoing the improvement consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improvement.
Figure 2 is a bottom plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the holder.
Figure 6 is a similar view looking toward the outer end of the handle.
In carrying out my invention I make use of a tubular handle. 1 which is preferably of metal. The handle 1 is closed at one end, but has its other end open and the said open end is slit longitudinally for a determined distance to provide what I will term jaws 22. Inward of the jaws the handle is grooved longitudinally, as at 3, and these grooves atford an effective gri for the thumb of the operator when holding a razor blade in a manner which will presently beapparent.
The clamp for a safety razor blade 4 is broadly indicated by the numeral 5. The clamp is constructed of spring metal which is centrally bent and rounded upon itself to provide ahead 6 and parallel'sides 7 The sides are, of course, spaced one away from the other, and one of the sides 7 has spaced longitudinal slits which are intersected by a central transverse slit and the metal bounded by these slits is bent first outwardly, as at 8, and from thence inwardly, as at 9. The ends 9 are received in the opening 10 provided by the referred to slits. These 7 ends bear against the plate, preferably of light material, hi h is indicated by h numeral .11.
In operation the clamp 5 has the blade 4: inserted between the sides 7 thereof, and dis closed most clearly in Figures 2, 3 and 4 of the drawings. Thus one side of the blade contacts with the outer face of the plate 11. The device is then moved longitudinally between the jaws 2 of the handle 1. The spring fingers 8 will contact with the lower edge provided by one of the jaws 2, and by virtue of such contact the said spring fingers will be moved into the opening 10, tocause their portions 9 to press against the plate 11, and force the said plate and the blade at against the second side 7 of the clamp, thus effectively holding the blade and clamp on the handle.
Because the handle is rounded and the head 6 of the clamp 5 is likewise rounded,
and both of these rounded portions are brought, at times to contact with the strop, when a razor is to be honed or sharpened, the device, as a whole may be-alternately turned from side to side on the said strop in an easy and expeditious manner. The improvement as previously inferred may serve as a handle and clamp for a razor blade when the latter is employed for cutting, and the simplicity and advantages of my construction will be perfectly apparent to those skilled in the art to which such inven tion relates. spaced jaws, said handle inward of the jaws prising a spring metal plate which is centrally rounded upon itself to formthe same with a head, side plates extending in para]- lelism from the head, one of said side plates having an opening therethrough and being formed with outwardly rounded inwardly extending fingers disposed opposite the opening, a plate between the sides, contacted by the fingers, the second side'and the said plate designed to receive a razor blade therebetween and the said fingers adapted'to be contacted by one of the jaws of the handle and to be sprung by virtue of said contact to exert a pressure against the plate to cause the latter to exert a like pressure against the blade.
