GLAMPING DEVICE.
Application-filed July 23, 1924. Serial No. 727,692.

Be it known that I, AN'roNio GURRENTE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at West New York, county of Hudson, State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Clamping Device, of which the fol owing is a specification.
My invention relates to clamps, and isv especially suitable in. clamping forms for concrete columns.
Themain object of theinvention is to pro vide a clamp which may be quickly applied to forms of various sizes whether of square or other cross-section, and means for quickly and easily tightening the clamp and for holding it in place.
Another object is to provide a more or less unitary clamp from which there are no parts to get lost, so that the clamp will always be ready for use.
Fig. 1 is a perspective of a pair of clamps constructed according to the invention holding a form for a concrete column.

Fig. 3 is a perspective of a key for tightening the clamps against the form.
Each clamp consists of two long thin metal strips 1 and 2 pivotally connected near their ends as by the pin or rivet 3. The strips 1 and 2 are each perforated throughout their length by one or more rowsrof equally spaced holes 4. Preferably two rows of holes in staggered relationship are provided, the holes being somewhat closer together than shown in the drawings so as to give a fine adjustment to the size of the form or other object to be clamped. The clamps are shown attached to a form consisting of four separate sides 5 of approximately equal width, such as would be used for a column of square cross-section, but it will be obvious that forms of other cross section could be clamped equally well. A lug 6 of strip stock similar to that composing the strips 1 and 2 has the laterally offset portions 7 and 8. The portion 8 is made just long enough to provide a firm supporting surface for attachment to one of the strips 1 or 2 and has perforations capable of registering with those in either of the strips. The offset of lug 6 is approximately equal to the thickness of the strips so that the strip 1 and lug portion 7 of one clamp may readily receive the strip 2 of bolts and nuts 9.

Pulling arm 10 in the direction indicated by the arrow in Figure 2 will tighten the clamp against the form 5 to any desired degree until some hole such as 14 is just clear of the strip 1. To hold the tightened clamp in position I provide two tapered pins 15 and 16, one of which may be inserted through the first perforation in each strip beyond the edge of the intersecting strip. When lug 6 is used one of the pins passes through registering perforations in both the lug and its associated strip. I prefer to yieldably but permanently secure the pins 15 and 16 as by a chain 18 to a flange 17 on the free end of lug 6 so that the pins will always be at hand when the clamps are to be placed on a form.
The purpose of extending the pin 12 and pressure member 13 in both directions from the body of the key is to permit the key to be applied to the strip from above or below and with either face next to the strip as may be more convenient.
Clamps constructed according to my invention are obviously very cheap to manufacture, can be made strong and light, have no parts to wear out, and none to get lost so that quick erection and taking down of forms is assured. 1. A clamp for forms and the like comprising two pivotally connected strips, each having a number of spaced transverse holes therethrough, and a lug carri d by one of the strips and having offset ends, each supplied with holes to register with those in the strip so that one of said ends may be tached to one of said strips by means passing through registering holes and there if; positioning the other end along the adjacent strip with the corresponding holes in register and spaced from the strip sulfr ciently for another strip to be placed therebetween.
2. A clamp for forms and the like com prising two strips of suitable length loosely connected together at their ends and each having a plurality of rows of spaced staggered perforations, a lug having two approximately parallel portions offset from each other the thickness of one of said strips, both portions having perforations to regiswith those in the strips and one portion heing bolted to one of the strips, and a pair of pins to the perforations and having flexible connections with the lug.
3. A clamp for forms and the like comprising two strips of approximately equal length loosely riveted together at their ends and each having two rows of equally spaced staggered perforations, a lug having two approximately parallel port-ions laterally offset from each other, both portions having perforations to register with those in the strips and one portion being bolted to one of the strips, and a pair of tapered pins to it the perforations and chained to the lug.

In a device of the character described, two clamps each comprising two pivotally connected perforated strips, and a key to tighten said clamps, said key comprising a lever having a long arm, a fulcrum pin to lit the perforations in the strips extending through the lever and a short curved arm terminating in a transverse member, extending to opposite sides of the lever adapting for use with a strip of either clamp to engage strip of the other clamp placed on either side thereof said transverse member having a pressure face approximately parallel to the fulcrum pin.
ln a device of the character described two clamps each comprising two pivotally connected perforated strips one of the strips of one of said clamps having a bifurcated portion to receive a strip of the other clamp, a key to tighten said clamp comprising a lever having a long arm, a fulcrum pin to the perforations in the strips and extending through the lever a short curved arm terminating in a member extending to opposite sides of the short curved arm to engage both parts of the bifurcated strip of the other clamp.
