.To azz whom a may miami VBe it known that I, LEON E'. CULVER, a
l citizen of the United States, residing at Butte,
in the county of Silver Bow-and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Clothes-Washing .Machin'e, of which the following is a specication.
' VThis invention relates broadly to an improved clothes washing machine, but it has more specific reference to a supplemental de- -vice tobe used in association with amachine for the purpose of filling or draining the tub.
What I propose to do is to provide a pump vhaving suction and discharge conduits in "communication therewith-the discharge conduit bein provided with a movable nozzle capable o being disposed `over the tub of the machine or over a. sink for discharging the water into one of these receptacles. The
.suction conduit is provided with a iiexible hose having a nozzle to' be placed into a,
v water su ply receptacle, such as a boiler, to
' discharge pipe.
-vsupported tub. 'A sink, shown in dotted hnes, is designated by the character `2.
Mounted onthe washing machine is a conventional centrifugal pump 3,- the discharge pipe 4 of which extends upwardly to a point adjacent the top of the tub. At 'its top, this pipe is provided with a'rotatably` mounted discharging nozzle 5; Intermediate its ends,
the discharge pipe is provided with a' bulbous'enlargement 6to increase the Huid ca-Il pacity of the system. Also in communication with the pump 3 is a suction pipe 7 which leads to the top of the tub. At the end of the last named pipeJ'a flexible rubber'hose or the like l8 is connected, thishose being pro-l vided aty its intake end with a spherical aper-4 'tured nozzle 9 adapted to be immersed into a boiler-. or other supply receptacle. `-Adjacent the pum a suitable chamber forming 'enlargement 0 'is provided. This enlarge- `with the pump; The
ment 10, like the aforesaid enlargement 6,
'serves toA increase the iiuid capacity of the" system. At its bottom, the tub 1 is providedwith a valved drain 11 in communication suitable motor 12.
l 'with boiling water, the nozzle 9 on the hose l8 is immersed in a boiler of ywater and the pl'lim 3 is started to suckthe water from t e discharge4 pipe 4, whereupon it is delivered from the latter into the nozzle 5. which is then turned to the dottedline positionindicated to discharge the water into thetub.
it this time, the valve in the drain device 11 1s of course closed. By o ning this-valve v and starting the pump, t e water may be drained from the tub and driven through the discharge pipe 4 into the sink 2 by disposing the nozzle 5 over the latter as shown inthe drawing. also be obtained by leaving the valve in the drain 11 closed and immersing the' noz`zle into the water in the tub and sucking it through the pipe 7 into the pump and thence through the discharge pipe. Thus, itis'obvious that thedevice will permit water to be transferred from one receptacleto another and toobviate the necessity of placing the housewife under the strain lof handling the same as is now the case. By maintaining a quantity of water in the system at all times it isrendered fool-proof and is primed ready for immediate operation.
It is' thought that the foregoing descrip- Assuming that it is desired to fill the'tub- 'This' draining operation could oiler through the puinppand into the tion when taken in connection with the drawing will suffice to enable a clear'understanding of the invention to be had. Therefore, a -more lengthy description is deemed unnecessary.
Having tlius describedA I claim is:-.,
1. A clothes washing' apparatus comprisingla tub, a valved drain device Aat the botv tom-thereof, a centrifugal pump located beneath said drain device and in communication with thelatter, a suction pipe leading to said pump, a hose carried by said suction pipe, aj nozzle on the free end of said hose, y
a' discharge pipe leading from said pump and to the top of -saidv tub, Vand a 'second nozzle rotatably mounted on the upper end of saidI discharge pipe.-
. 2|. A clothes washing apparatus compristhe invention', what ing an open top tub, a; portable vsupport I therefor, a valved drain device connected to the bottom of sadtub', acentrifugal pump located beneath said tub and in communica:-
jtion with said drain device, a suction pipe l .leading from said pump upwardly along one side of the tub and above the latte 'a suction hose connected to the u per en of said suction pipe, said suction ose being prof vided at. its intake end with a nozzle a discharge pipe extending from said pump 11p. 10 ward yalong the opposite side of the tub and above the top thereof,an angularly disposed nozzle rotatably mountedon the-upper end of said discharge pipe to'be positioned at will over said tub or some other form-of 15 collection receptacle.
In 'testimony whereof I ax my signature.
