CONTAINER.
Application filed June 16, 1924. Serial No. 720,260.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, OLAnnNcn E. l viniaAMs and JOHN B. STOUT, citizens of the United States, residing at Bridgeport, in the county of Harrison and Eitate of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Containers, of which. the following; is a specification.
This invention relates to a container, and more particularly to a container for pocket use, such as for the carrying of cigars, cigarettes, etc.
An import-ant object of the invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character to prevent the mutilation of the articles carried.
A further object resides in the provision of a container of the above mentioned character will facilitate the ready and easy removal of the cigars, cigarettes, etc.
A still further object of our invention is to provide an article of the present charac ter that will be inexpensive of manufacture, strong and durable and well adapted for the purposes specified.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming: a part of this specification, and in which like nuniierals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same:
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a container constructed in accordance with the present invention, the top thereof being opened and the articles carried thereby-being shown in dottedlines.
Figure 2 is a detailed vertical sectional view of the container with the top in a closed position, and
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of our in vention.
In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred em i)0(lll1l8]1i3 of our invention, 5 designates a sheet metal container of any desirable sh ape but preferably of the substantial elliptical shape as shown.
The upper end of this container is open and is adapted to receive therein a supply of cigars or cigarettes. A hinged cover 6 is provided for the open top as clearly illnstrated in the drawn-1g. The bottom wall of the container is provided adjacent one end with, a U-shaped slot 5%, whereby a tongue 9 is formed, the purpose of which will be hereinafter more fully described.
The cigarettes, which in Figures and 2 or the drawing' are disclosed in dotted lines are adapted to be packed within the container 5, and to be sold to the trade in said container. Upon the opening); of the lid #3, the tongue 9 may be pressed upwardly into the dotted line position of Figure 1, whereupon certain of the eigarettes will be forced upwardly above the open end of the container whereby they may be readily removed therefrom. U
It will thus be seen that we have provided a highly simple and useful lfOllltOf container, particularly adapted forcig jars and cigarettes, and even though we have here- 111 shown and described the mostpractical embodiment of the invention with which we are at this time familiar, it is nevertheless to be understood that min or changes may be made in the invention. without departing till from the spirit "and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described our invention. what we claim as new. and desire to secure by LettersPatent is:
1. In a container of the character de scribed, a tongue formed in the bottom wall of said container and adjacent one end there of, whereby certain of the contents of the container may be discharged by pressinig, inwardly upon said tongue.
2. In a container of the character described, a bottom wall provided with a slit forming a tongue in the bottom wall extend ing normally in the same plane therewith and adapted to be pressed inwardly of the container by the users finger for lifting,"
certain of the contents thereof ready gras 'nng of the same.
in testimony whereof we affix our sigma L a cures.
to permit ciiannnon n. WILLIAMS; JOHN srour.
