Box non MILK BOTTLES ANnoTHERYAnTICLns Application led April 2,
This invention relates to a box for holding articles, as well as money for the articles, or tickets, the general'object of the invention being to provide means whereby an alarm will be sounded when either the top or bottom of the box is moved to open position so as to notify the householder that some one is opening the boX.
Another object of the invention is to provide the box with a hinged cover and bottom so that articles may be readily placed therein, and articles removed therefrom, by opening the bottom, with means on the front of the box for indicating the amount and kinds of articles desired.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed ont in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a front View of the device.
Fig` 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view with the top open and a part of the member 14 broken away.
Fig. 4 is a side view of the invention with parts broken away to show the electrical contacts.
In these drawings, the letter A indicates the box which has a straight rear part and a front sloping downwardly and forwardly as shown. Both ends of the box are open and the upper end is closed by a hinged cover 1 and the bottom is closed by a hinged door 2. These parts are normally held in closed position by a pair of springs 3, one at each side of the body of the box and having their ends connected with the door 2 and the cover 1.
Both the cover 2 and the door 1 are of greater dimensions than the box and the door 2 may be provided with the upstanding flanges 4 which extend up over the corners 1932. Serial No. 602,806.
of the box when the door 2 is in closed position.
Upper and lower cross pieces 5 are arranged in the box adjacent one side thereof and each c cross piece carries a spring plunger 6, these plungers being moved inwardly, against the action of their springs, when t-he Vcoverl and door 2 are in closedposition, so that'their heads 7 will be out of engagement with the. contacts 8 carried by but insulated from the 60 cross pieces.
These contacts are connected by the conductors 9 with the door bell Aor other alarm, so that an alarm will be given when either the door 2 or the cover 1 is moved to open posit-ion. 65
Adial D is located on the front face of the front of the box and contains the names of commodities and amounts, and pivoted fingers 10 are located adjacent'the indicia so that the customer can move the ingers to indicate the commodities desired land the amount thereo-f, as clearly shown in Fig. 1.
A strip 11 is connected to the under face of the cover 1 and has an offset projecting part 12 so that objects can be placed between parts 75 of said strip and the front portion of the cover, such as bills and the like, and the lower end of the rear portion of the box or of a strip 13 attached to said rear part is extended and carries a downwardly and forwardly eX- tending member 14 wlch will be enga-ged by the door 2 when the same is in open position, so that the door forms a chute for money and tickets or the like placed in the box and the Y flanges 4 will direct the articles sliding down 85 the door into the hand of the user.
From the foregoing it will be seen that we have provided simple means for sounding an alarm when either the door or cover of the4 box is opened, thus indicating to a. person within the house, that the milkman or other deliveryman is putting something in the box, or that some one is opening the box and means whereby money, tickets or the like can be easily withdrawn from the box after it is placed 1therein, just by opening the door 2.
t is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combina.- tion and arrangement of the several parts provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described our invention what we claim as new is 1. A device of the class described comprising a box having its upper and lower ends open, a` downwardly opening door hingedly connected to the rear of the box7 for closing the lower end of the box, an upwardly opening door hingedly connected to the rear of the box at the top thereof for closing the upper end of the box7 springs connecting the two doors together and located exteriorly of the box and holding both doors in closed position, insulated strips arranged. adjacent one side of the box, within the same, with one strip adjacent the upper end orn the box and the other strip adjacent the lower end thereof`r a spring plunger carried by each strip, said plungers engaged by the doors when said doors are closed, for moving portions of the plungers away from the strips, and contacts on each strip engaged by said portions when the plungers are disengaged by the doors.
2. A device of the class described Comprising a box having its lower end open, a door for closing said lower end, a hinge connecting the rear edge of the door to the rear edge of the box at the lower end of the box, said door having flanges at its outer corners, the front portions of said flanges being spaced apart at the front of the door, a member connected with the rear part of the box and depending below the same`r and a member connected to the lower end of said last-mentioned member and having a part sloping downwardly and forwardly and forming a stop for the opening movement of the door for holding the door in a position sloping downwardly and forwardly.
In testimony whereof we atlix our signa.-
tures.
