.E. s. BALDWIN TOILET PAPER HOLIDER Filed Aug. 4. 1924 BY W-M ATTORNEY Patented Nov. 3, 1925.
Emms'r s. BALDWIN, or oaxmnn; CALIEORNlA.
TOILET-PAPER HOLDER.
Application filed August 4, 1824. Serial No. 730,104.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNEST S. BALDWIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet- Paper Holders, of which the following is a specification. v
My invention relates broadly to toilet articles, and more particularly to an improved toilet-paper holder.
Holders of the above character and with which I am familiar, have the core member or supporting roll for. the paper as a separate and detachable element of the devlce. This element, in mounting the roll of pa er thereon and inserting the same in the hol er; very frequently drops therefrom, or the paper slips off the core, or both drop. The occurrence is so frequent as to be more or less annoying, and furthermore as many' toilets are not any too clean,"the dropping of the roll or paper to the floor renders the same unsanitary to a degree.
The major objects of my invention, are to produce a very simple and efiicient holder of the character mentioned that has 1ts core member pivotally and ins'eparably attached to the frame member, thus making 1t possible to overcome the above objections by preventing the dropping of the core from the holder and permitting one hand to freely enga e the roll of paper.
Ot er objects are to make the device'easily applicable to a supporting surface, and of such desi n and have suflicient resiliency as to easi y adapt it to engage and disengage a roll of paper.
I attain the above and other objects by the novel construction of my invention, and exemplify one embodiment of the same in the accompanying drawing, and in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device showing the parts in assembly, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of it. Fig. 3 is a plan of it showing the core member swung on its pivot, and a roll of paper positioned on the core and ready for engagement within theholderl 7 Referring to the drawing and figures thereof: The numeral 4 indicates the frame member of the holder, and is preferably made of suitable resilient wire bent or otherwise formed substantially in the shape of the letter U. One arm 5 of the frame terminates in an eye 6, that pivotally embraces one of the terminal ends of the coremember 7 of the holder.
The core member, in the embodiment of the invention shown, is also preferably made of 'suitable'wire and in the form of a cylindrical coil and having each end of the wire spiralled inwardly to leave a central opening 8 and 9; the openingS being occupied by the aforementioned eye 6 to form a distance to accommodate the ordinary roll of paper 15. In operation, the core 7 is disengaged at 1ts separable end by springing the hook 11 of the arm 10 out of thesocket or opening 9, and the roll of paper 15 is then slipped over the freely movable and inseparable to position for service.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the advantages of the construction and .core 7, and the mounted core then relocked method of operation will be readily under-- stood by those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains, and while I have described the principle of operation, together with the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I de-. sire to have it-understoodthat the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made,'when desired, as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Havin thus described my 4 invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by. Letters Patent of the United following: I
A. toilet paper holder comprising a wire frame and a cylindrical core of wire, the frame formed with a fiat portion having a pair of arms projecting angularly therefrom and the core formed with a central opening at each end thereof, the end of one arm of the frame formed with an eye to hingedly States, is the and inseparably engage the core through one of its end openings, and the end of the other arm of the frame formed with a hook for the removable insertion of the latter through the opposite end opening in the core, and
the flat portion formed with an eye adjacent each arm for the reception of wall seourement means therefor and also to provide resilience to effect insertion and disinsertion of the hooked end of the arm in the said core opening provided therefor. r
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
ERNEST SQ BALDWIN.
