HOLDER FOR PAPER ROLLS Filed Feb. 17, 1940 INVENTORS John Baldwin Wm. Hl'flenbrawd JAY M Arm/wax Patented Apr. 29, 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HOLDER FOR PAPER-ROLLS John' Baldwin, Brooklyn, and William Hillen-, brand; Rigo Park, Long Island, N. Y.
. Application February 17, 1940,Serial-N 319,448
Claims. (01. z t-55.2)
The invention relates to holders for toiletpaper rolls.
The main objects of my invention is to facilitate the placing of the paper roll upon the holder and its detachment from the latter.
A further object of my invention is to carry out these actions by a simple one-hand manipulation.
The invention is also designed to automatically secure the paper roll in its dispensing position simultaneously with the placing of the same upon the holder.
Another object of the invention is to produce a paper roll holder of utmost constructional simplicity and to hereby greatly reduce the cost of its manufacture.
An important distinguishing factor of the invention is the provision of a one-piece wire structure which complies with all of the above mentioned objects.
The invention therefore aims to render holders for paper rolls more practical, commercially useful and efiicient.
With these and. other objects in view the invention will be hereinafter more fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing of which Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the holder partly broken away to show the location of the roll upon the holder,
Fig. 2 is a front View of the holder and Fig. 3 is a side view of the same attached to a support.
Referring to the drawing by numerals the holder consists of a one-piece resilient wire structure A adapted to receive the paper roll 3. The holder is composed of a main section I and a second free-end section 2. The main section I extends substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the roll 3. The free-end section 2 extends in the operating position of the holder from the one end of the main section I in an inclined upward direction of which the inclination gradually decreases. The free end 4 of this wire section 2 is bent downward.
At the connecting point of the main section I and the free end section 2 a loop 5 is located consisting of two parallel shanks 6 and 1 which are inclined at an angle of approximately 135 to the main section. The outer shank I transits into the free-end section 2. On the end of the main section I which is opposite to the loop carrying end two spaced closed ears 8, H are provided which consist of correspondingly bent portions of the wire I.
The holder is carried upon an angular bracket our which the one arm i2 is provided with holes for the fastening bolts I3 (see Fig. 3) and the other arm forms a shaft in.
After the holder is placed upon the shaft ill by means of the ears 8, M a series of projections H are formed from the hollow shaft H] by uplifting a cut-out triangle shaped portion of the shaft wall. These projections ll secure the holder in its operating position upon the shaft l0.
In order to place the paper roll in its dispensing position it is slipped over the holder in the direction of the arrow B. Due to the resiliency of the wire structure A the sections I and 2 are easily compressed and the roll 3 is slipped over the holder without any difficulty.
The loop 5 which protrudes over the outer end of the roll 3 prevents its slipping-off from the holder.
If it is desired to detach the roll the same is moved in the direction of the arrow C and due to the resiliency of the section 2 it slides easily and without resistance over the loop 5.
We claim:
1. A holder for toilet paper rolls comprising a one-piece wire structure consisting of a main wire section substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of said roll, of a free-end wire section extending from said main section in an upwardly inclined direction and gradually transiting into a portion substantially parallel to said main section andterminating into a bent-down free end and of an open loop resiliently connecting the one end of said wire sectionwith the resilient freeend section and securing the paper roll thereupon without conflicting with its detachment and a plurality of ears consisting of upward and downward bent portions of the main wire to rotatably locate said holder on a support.
2. A holder for toilet paper rolls comprising a one-piece wire structure consisting of a main wire section substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of said roll, of a free-end wire section extending from one end of said main section in an upwardly inclined direction and gradually transiting into a portion substantially parallel to said main section and into a bent-down free end and of an open loop resiliently connecting the one end of said main wire section with the resilient free-end section and securing the paper roll thereupon without conflicting with its detachment and loops at the other end of said main wire section to pivotally mount said holder on a support, said holder and said roll being thereby adapted to rotate freely upon said support.
3. A holder for receiving a toilet paper roll, comprising a portion extending substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of a roll, a portion inclined with respect to the first named portion and providing a free roll engaging end, said portions being resiliently connected at one end thereof by an abutment adapted to engage the end of said roll positioned on said holder and loops at the end of the first-named portion opposite to said abutment end for pivotally mounting said holder upon a support, said holder and said paper roll being thereby adapted to rotate freely upon said support.
4. A holder for receiving a toilet paper roll, comprising a portion extending substantially first named portion for pivotally mounting said holder upon a support, said holder and said paper roll being thereby adapted to rotate freely upon said support. 7
5. In combination with a. holder for receiving a toilet paper roll, comprising a. portion extending substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the roll, a portion inclined with respect to the first named portion, means at one end thereof to resiliently connect said portions and to provide a free roll engaging end and loops at the other end of said first named portion for pivotally mounting said holder upon a support, said parallel to the longitudinal axis of therolL'a portion inclined with respect to the first named portion, means, at one end thereof to resiliently connect said portions and to provide a free roll engaging end and loops at the other end of said holder-land said paper roll being thereby adapted to rotate freely upon said support, an angular two-arm bracket the one arm of which is provided with fastening means and the other arm is shaped to form a pivot adapted to receive said holder, said pivot being provided with projections to secure the holder upon said pivot.
