B. E. MvcLAuGHLN PAPER HANGERS PASTING' `.T/BLE ATTACHMENT Filed Mal-Q1; 1924 Patented Aug. Il, i925.
Unirse stares BERNARD n. MGLAUGIILIN, or DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
PAPER-HANGERS PASTING-TABLE ATTACHMENT.
Application filed March 8, 1924. Serial No. 697,821.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, BERNARD E. Mo- IJAUGHLIN a citizen f the United States, residing at iDetroit, in the county of I/Vayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain -new and useful Improvements in Paper-IIangers Fasting-Table Attachments, of which the following` is a specification.
This invention relates to an attachment for paper hangers pasting tables wherein means is provided for preventing the longitudinal and lateral movement of the table when the same is supported on the folding supporting legs associated therewith and is adapted to be positive in its action.
A further object of the invention is to provide an attachment of the above mentioned character, which vis adapted to be used in conjunction with my patent support for paper hangers pasting .table as covered in my Patent 1,487,960, granted March 25, 1924.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable, and further, well adapted for the purposes for which it is adapted.
A still further obj ect is to provide an attachment for a paper hangers pasting table of the above mentioned character, wherein the slidable movement of the table on the supporting legs will be prevented, thereby saving considerable time and labor on the part of the paper hanger.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the same i Figure l is a side elevation of my invention showing the same in use, and
Figure 2 is a fragmentary detail perspective view showing a pasting table having my attachment thereon and the supporting beam having a notch provided therein for receiving the attachment.
In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 represents the usual pasting table which comprises the elongated boards the construction of which are well known in the art, and a further description of the same is not thought necessary. Adapted to be associated with the pasting table l are the pair of horses or collapsible supporting legs 2 ,and 3, respectively. The latter are also well known in the art, and a further description of the same is not thought necessary for the purposes of carrying out the objects of the present invention. Each of the supporting members 2 and 3, respectively, are provided with the usual cross beams 4f which extend across thc top of the same and upon which are adapted to rest the boards which comprise the pasting table l.
With the pasting table and supporting legs therefor now in use, a paper hanger experiences considerable difficulty in preventing the sliding movement of the boards of the table when he is flattening out the paper by removing the curl therefrom in the manner well known in the art, so that the paper may be properly cut in the desired lengths. I-Ie often finds it necessary to lose considerable time in replacing the boards of the pasting table in their proper position on the supporting members so that he may carry out his work in preparing the paper for the application of paste thereon. Also when putting paste on the back face of the wall paper when the same is laid on the boards, the vibration caused by the pasting process causes a continual sagging of the table consequently resulting in the displacement of the supporting members therefor. To overcome any slidable movement of the table on the supporting members in either a longitudinal or a lateral direction, I have provided an attachment, the character of which will be presently apparent.
My improved attachment comprises a plate 5 which is secured to the rear longitudinal edge of the table l adjacent the respective ends thereof by any suitable fastening means such as is shown at 6 in the drawing. The depending portion 7 of the plate 5 which extends below the bottom of the table l is provided with a notch or cutout portion 8 and this cut-out portion is further adapted to be received in the notch 9 provided in the upper edge of each of thel supporting beams 1l, in a manner as clearly shown in Figure 2 of the drawing.
`When in position as shown in Figure l of the drawing, the depending portion 7 of the plate 5 will extend over the opposite longitudinal sides of the cross beams I in such a manner as to lock or otherwise secure the table l on the supporting beams t of the support against any longitudinal movement or lateral movement thereon.
In this manner it will be seen that an attachment has been provided in connection With a paper hangers pasting table, Wherein a simple and ei'licient means is provided for supporting' the pasting table in proper position on horses or supports therefor and Will not necessitate the less of time and labor by the paper hanger such as has been experienced With the pasting tables and supports therefor now generally in use. The plates 5 may be readilyT detached from the pasting table Whenever desired, and may furthermore be secured thereon in any desired position, to accommodate the supports With which the same are adapted to be as sociated.
My device `above described is preferably adapted to be used in conjunction with the support covered in my application above referred to although it is to be understood that the same may be used Without the supportheretofore mentioned.
A device of the above mentioned character may be manufactured at a very small cost and does not require the alteration of the pasting table in applying' the saine thereon and will not in any Way interfere with the handling of the Wall paper When the latter is placed on the pasting' table. Furthermore, a device of the above mentioned character, being formed of metal, will be strong and durable.
While I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to Without departing` from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is A knock down paper hanger-s pasting table comprising a pair of longitudinally spaced supporting members each embodying legs With a transverse supporting beam eX- tending across the tops of the legs, said supporting beams being provided adjacent their opposite ends With transversely disposed notches of a predetermined depth7 a top board resting directly on the upper edges of said beams, and a plurality of connecting plates connected to the longitudinal edges of the top board at points above said beams, the lower portions of the plates extending below the under side of the top and having` the extended portions notched for co-action with the notches in said beam, for holding the table top against movement in longitudinal and lateral directions, the notches in said plates being of a predetermined depth to permit the top to lie in direct contact with the upper edges of said beams.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
BERNARD E. MoLAUGI-ILIN.
