Description
Mans. 1925. I 15285574 G. S. GUMAER MEANS FOR VENTILATING FOOTWEAR Filed June 24, 1921 A TTORNEY Patented Mar. 3, 1925.
UNITED STATES GEORGE s. GUMAER, or CORONADO, CALIFORNIA.
MEANS FOR VENTILATING FOGTWEAR.
Application filed June 24, 1921. semi no. 480,039.
To all whom. t may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE S. GUMAnR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Coronado, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented a certain new and useful Means for Ventilating Footwear, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a means for ventilating foot-wear, more particularly shoes, boots, slippers and the like and the objects of my invention are; first, to provide a means for Ventilating foot-wear in which perforations in one member are positioned in offset relation to the perforations in another member so that they do not communicate directly and also provides a well defined channel for passage of air between one member and the other thus providing communicating means not observable from the outside; second, to provide a means of this class which may be positioned anywhere desirable on the footwear but it is preferred to place it on the toe of a shoe or other footwear; third, to provide a means of this class which does not necessarily form a part of a tip of a shoe or other footwear; fourth, to provide a novelly constructed means for Ventilating footwear and fifth, to provide a means of this class which is very simple, and economical of construction, efficient in its action, durable and which will not readily deteriorate or get Y out o-f order.
W'ith these and other Objects in view as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and tothe characters of reference thereon which form a art of this application, in which:
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout the views of the drawings.
The shoe upper l, and channel forming cover strip 2 constitute the principal parts of my Ventilating means.
The shoe upper l may be of the ordinary or conventional type of shoe uppers except that it is provided with a row of spaced apart perforations la of suitable size through said upper.
Mounted over this row of perfo-rations l is the channel cover forming strip 2 which consists of a narrow strip of material preferafbly the same material as the upper l, provided with spaced perforations 2f* in a row along the middle thereof and so posi.- tioned that the perforations 22 are positioned intermediate the perforations ln in the upper l presenting an offset relation as shown by solid and dotted lines in Fig. l of the drawings. This member 2 is folded under at both edges and sewed through the three thicknesses of material as shown best in F ig. 2 of the drawings, thus providing a well defined channel 2b between the middle of the strip 2 and the upper l immediately over the perforations la.
It will be noted that this means is so constructed that the middle portion of the cover strip is securely held in spaced relation from the upper l, providing a well n defined channel for the air to pass from the interior to the exterior and from the eX- terior to the interior with the movement of the foot relatively to the shoe upper while walking or the like.
It will also be noted that these perforations lZL may be placed in any location desirable in the shoe upper and not necessarily on the toe and this cover strip 2 positioned thereover as described.
Though I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions I kdo not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement but desire to include in the scope of my invention the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: y
In a shoe, an upper and a row of spaced perforations arranged crosswise thereof and also having a narrow strip of material separate from, placed upon, and also extending across the upper, at a point spaced from the toe of the shoe, said strip having perforations arranged substantially medally therein and 'also having" inwardly turned flaps on both sides of its under side, said flaps being secured to the upper and spaeing the medial, perforated portion 'ofthe strip from the upper, whereby an air channel is formed between the perforated portion of the upper and the perforated portionvof the strip.v
Intestiniony whereof, 'I have hereunto set my hand at San Diego, California, this 18th day of June, 1921.
GEORGE S. GUMAER.
