iii platin. l (ci. ara- 11) 'This invention .relates to i-ifilevv and usefirl jiinpijovemn-tsfln foot -wea-r.
More particularly the inventi'n proposes inrproving foot Wearfsuchasfshdsfslippers, sandals, moccasins and the like, by crocheting a lace through 'penings along dgejpbrtions thereof.
More "particularly, the 'hvf'tin proposes that the edge portions mentioned in the previous paragraph be composed of more than one layer, and that the lace which is crocheted through openings along these edge portions be used for holding the layers together. An important feature of the invention resides in the fact that the crocheted lace materially enhances the appearance of the footwear as well as serving to secure the edge portions together.
It is proposed to show several different types of footwear in this specification and to teach the manner in which the new and improved crocheting is applied.
Another object of the invention resides in improving footwear with crocheted edge portions, as briefly explained, which may be manufactured and sold at a low cost.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the fol-lowing description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a moccasin constructed in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a developed view of the outer member which forms the sole and the upper of the moccasin shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical sectional View taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a slipper embodying another form of this invention.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a shoe embodying another form of the invention.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of another shoe of a different style embodying another form of the same invention.
The new and improved moccasin, in accordence with that form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive, includes an outer member I forming the sole Il and the upper I2 of the moccasin. This member Il) is cut out at the central portion of the back to form the back of the heel portion I4 and to provide the edges I5 which are extended along the heel portion I4 to form the horizontal seam I6. This seam I6 is lace. The back verticali, seam la is rrnietfsy'securing together `:the backfejdge .-prtiohs T9 of the member fil. Aifiid-soleZ'is rioufrjtdubidnthe S611@ @einen jef )the meister ift. Tais iiiiessojie is indicated in Fig *2 by h'e 'dash lines 2li. It
Ato 'assist in A'siiapiffg the 'sole "6i "the 'mccasin.
The moccasin is also provided with -an inner lining 2|. The edge portions of the member IU and the lining 2| are formed with aligned openings .23 through which the lace 24 is crocheted to hold together the edge portions of the lining and member I0.
The moccasin upper is formed with an open vamp portion which is closed with a plug 25. This plug 25 is secured along its edges to the edge portions of the member |`0 and the lining 2i with a continuation of said lace '24 which is crocheted through the edge portions of these parts. The plug 25 has an upwardly `extending back portion 26, the edges of which are finished with the lace 24 crocheted through spaced openings to stiien and ornament the unattached rear edge of said plug. A lace bow 28 is mounted upon the vamp piece 26.
In Fig. 4 another embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in which a slipper 30 is shown, which may be of any design and construction, provided that its edge portions are composed of more than one layer so that a lace may be crocheted through openings along these layers. More particularly, the slipper 30 has an upper 3| with an open top into which a plug 32 is set. The edge portions of the plug 32 are secured to the edge portions of the open Vamp section of the upper 3 I with a lace' 33 which is crocheted through openings along their edge portions. This lace 33 also extends along the back portion of the plug 32. A lace 33 is laced along the top edge portion of the upper 3l and extends across the plug 32 and is tied into a bow 31 by which it is possible to securely hold the slipper in position when worn on a foot of a person.
In Fig. 5 still another embodiment of the invention has been disclosed which is applied to a shoe 43. This shoe is provided with a vamp portion 4I having several openings 42 and 43. The edge portions of these openings 42 and 43, as well as the edge portions of the back ofthe vamp 42, are provided with laces 44 crocheted to finish these edge portions and to hold together layers used in constructing the vamp 4l.
In Fig. 6 another design of shoe 45 is illustrated, which is provided with a plug 46 having 3 its edges provided with a lace 41 crocheted through openings extended along the edges thereof.
The dominating feature of this invention resides in the fact that crocheted laces are used to decorate the footwear and to enhance its appearance, as well as to secure together the edge portions of the layers used in constructing the footwear.
The crocheting serves to encase and hide the edge portions of the layers.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modiiications coming Within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
A slipperhaving a body portion comprising a sole and upper, said body portion being open at the top and perforated along the edges thereof,
a plug set into said open top and having its pe- 25 ripheral edgeY perforated, and a lace passed through said perforations extended along the edge portions of said open top and said plug to elevate and maintain said upper in its nal position and to hold said plug in position, said plug having a free back edge. and said lace being passed through openings extended along said back edge for stiffening and ornamenting the Same.
