CORN AND CALLOUS RAZOR.

To all whom it may concern:

Beit known that I, PAUL JANZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented cer tain new and useful Improvements in Corn and Callous Razors, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to the class of cutlery and pertains particularly to the class ofcorn and callous razors.

The primary object of this invention is the provision, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, of a corn and callous razor of improved design, and which will act to safely and cleanly shave oft light thin patches of callous or corn.

The invention has for another of its objects the provision, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, of an improved corn and callous razor so constructed that the affixing of the handle to the head thereof, will securely and positively clamp a razor or cutting blade in position for use and hold the same against any movement.

A. still further object of this invention is the provision, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, of a corn and callous razor constructed along the lines of the well known safety razor, and having the head thereof formed of a single body of material possessed of an inherent means whereby upon loosening the handle from connection therewith, the head will tend to spring open to release the blade carried thereby.

A further and final object of the inven tion is the provision, in a manner as hereinafter to be set forth, of a corn and callous razor of neat and attractive design, capable of being kept clean and sanitary, strong, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.

The invention will be best understood froina consideration ofthe following detail description taken in connectionwith the accompanying drawings forming apart of this specification, with the understanding that the invention is not confined to any strict conformity with the showing of the drawings but may be changed and modified so long as such changes and modifications mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claims.

Figure 1 is a View of the device embodying this invention showing the application and use thereof.

Figure 2 isa front elevation of the upper portion of the handle and the head of the 'azor, a portion thereof being broken away to show a detail of construction.

Figure 3 is an enlarged side elevation of the device, the head of which is shown in transverse section.

Figure 4 shows the stamped blank from which the head of the razor is formed, the same being in condition to be folded upon itself to provide the finished head.

Figure 5 is an edge view of the blank disclosed in Figure 4.

Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the description will begin with the formation of the blank as shown in Figure 4:. i

As shown in this figure a rectangular piece of metal, indicated as a whole by the numeral 1, is provided, and there is pressed into this blank piece of metal the transverse groove 2 which is adjacent one end thereof as shown.

Throughthe longitudinal center of this blank and of the groove, there is formed the aperture 3 which is threaded. That portion of the blank lying between the groove 3 and the adjacent parallel edge, comprises, when the blank is bent to provide the finished head, the top guard or shield 4 of the razor. A. second circular aperture 5 is formed through the longitudinal center of the blank 1 as shown, and between this aperture and the adjacent end of the blank there is cut through the blank the transversely extending elongated opening 6. The inner longitudinal edge of the metal L through which this opening is formed is turned upwardly as at 7, while the outer longitudinal edge is pressed down forming what might be termed a chute 8.

Tl1e. 'end edge of the blank adjacent the downturned edge of the opening 6 is bent downwardly to form the transverse lip 9 while the bent portion of the lip 9 at each side edge of the blank is forced upwardly a slight distance to provide the spaced raised portions 10 which constitute edge guards for each end edge of the razor blade which is used in connection with the head, in the manner to be hereinafter described. There is thus formed at the central porton of the flanged edge 9 between the raised portions 10, the opening or passage 11.

sVhen the blank has been formed in the manner as above set forth, the same is ready to be bent to form the completed head of the razor. In finishing the head the guard portion 4 together with the grooved portion 2, is bent over and superposingthe; guard portions upon that portion of the blank through which the opening 6 isformed. In-

other words, the blank is bent at its central portion at 12', and the edge 13 of the guard portion a is located above and substantially parallel with-the lowermostedge of the downturned edge of the so called chute 8.

The head now formed has the cross sectional appearance shown in Figure 3, and the portion at which the blank is bent is substantially circular and forms the rolledsprin-g back 12 which is shown in Figure It is preferred to use that type of razor blade which-has a hacker rib-across one edge, and when the same is used, when the blade is in position between the top guard -1- and the underside or the bottom of the head 11-, the upwardly pressed central por-- tien '7 will bear against the body of the blade 15 and the back 16 of the blade will;

bear against one downturned portion of the groove 2- and will be positioned between the top 4- and the bottom 14 as shown. The edge of the bladeadjacent each side thereof, will be pressed againstthe inner side ofthe guards 10 whereas the central portion of the blade, indicated at 17, will extend across the open central portion 11 and across the opening 6 in the bottom 14.

There is now provided a handle 18 of any appropriate design having at its upper end the threaded stud or post l9-which is'a'dapted to pass freely through the lower aperture 5 of the head and threadedly engaged in the upper aperture 3 which is formed in the groove 2.
