Description

Jan. 1925- 1,5227% I. H. HELLMAN CONTAINER Filed Jan. l4 1924 IN VEN 70E H 7 702 NE Patented Jan. 13, 1925.
ISAAC H. HELLMAN, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
con'rnmna.
Application filed January 14,1924. Serial No. 686,073;
' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC H. HELLMAN, a c tizen of the United States, residing at the c1ty of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Containers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof.
This invention relates generally to containers and, more particularly, to a certain new and useful improvement in containers of the tube type especially adapted for toothpaste, shaving-cream, medicinal salves, and the like. i
My invention has for its chief object the provision of a container of the type stated and its stopper-cap with spring means for conjointly so fastening or securing the cap and container together that the cap may be freely seated 'in closing position upon or removed from the container and upon removal is yieldingly swung laterally or transversely away from the mouth of the containerand supported conveniently at hand for ready replacement.
With the above and other objects in view, my present invention resides in the novel features of form, construction, arrangement,
and combination of parts hereinafter described and afterwards pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a fragmental elevational View of a container and its stopper-cap embodying my invention,
Figure 2 is a plan view of the same. Referring now more in detail and'by reference characters to the drawing, which illustrates a preferred embodiment of my invention, 1 designates a container of preferably standard collapsible tube form or type especially adapted for shaving-cream, tooth-paste, medicinal salves, and the like. At its upper end, tube 1 is reduced, as at 2, and centrally provided with an outletneck 3 externally threaded, as at i, and
formed with a circumferential groove or recess 5.
Adapted to seat on neck 3 and internally threaded for detachable or removable enn gagement with its threads 4, is a stoppercap 6 formedor provided with a circumferential groove 7 8 designates a cap-attaching member, which is preferably constructed of springwire, and'which is looped upon itself and permanentlyseated at one end, as at 9, in the groove .5 of the container-neck 3 and' similarly looped upon itself and permanently seated at its other end, as at 10, in the groove 7 of cap 6, the permanent engagement between the member 8 and either or both the neck 3 and cap 6 being of such looseness as to allow relative freedom for rotatory movement between the container 1 and cap 6 in both threading the cap in closing position upon the container or in unthreading the cap for removal from the container to permit emission of the container-contents.
Intermediate its opposite ends 9 and 10, the member 8 is coiled upon itself, as at 11, longitudinally of the container 1, or, as it maybe said, substantially horizontally relatively to the cap 6, as shown, so that, when the cap 6 is unseated or removed from the neck 3, the .member 8 will resiliently carry or swing the cap 6 transversely. or laterally to one side of neck 3, as indicated by dotted lines in Figure 2. Interference with proper emission of the container-contents is thus efficiently avoided, and yet the cap 6 is supported upon the container in such manner as to be conveniently ready at hand for replacement in closingposition upon the container.
My new 'cap-fastenin means is simple and inexpensive inform an construction and is exceedingly efficient in the performance of its intended functions.
I am aware that-minor changes in the form, construction, arrangement, and combination of the several parts of my new container and its cap fastening means may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described without departing from the nature and principle of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, wh t I claim and desire to secure by Lett rs Patent is:
A container comprising a receptacle Having an outlet neck, a removable stoppercap for engagement with said outlet neck, and a spring device comprising a portion connected to said outlet neck; a portion connected to said stopper cap, and a coil spring 5 connecting said portions, said coil s ring being horizontally disposed relative y to the stopper cap and -the outlet neck and under tension when the stopper cap engages the outlet neck whereby said stopper cap is resiliently urged away from the out- 10 let neck when disengaged therefrom.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
ISAAC H. HELLMAN.
