muren sfraies 1,522,328 PATENT oFFicEff JASON ROGERS, or NEW ROCHELLE, NEW YORK, AssIeNoR To THE AD-vERTrsERs WEEKLY, TNO., OEWEsToi-IESTER, NEW YORK, A CORPORATION or NEW YORK.
CHART HOLDER AND FINDER.
Application filed April 4, 1.923. Serial No. 629,873.
To all whom it may concern.' n Be it known that l, JASON ROGERS, a 'citizen of the United States, and a resident of New Rochelle, in the county of lVestchester v for facilitating the tabulation and readingof ycolumned indicia and includes a base with which va number of strips having a column or columns of 'indicia inscribed thereon may i? be associated to co-relate the saine whereby readings and comparisons may be rapidly made.
In my copending and prior application, the strips having the columned indicia thereon were attached to the base o-r board by means of thumb tacks while the finder element was provided with inturned extremities engaged in grooves at the opposite ends of the base and folded to permit of the 30 movement of the same thereover.
It is therefore one of the principal objects of the present invention to eliminate the necessity of use of thumb tacks by providing the upper and lower or 'side edges with permanently attached means for engaging and retaining the strips in place and to provide the opposite ends of the board or base with means for engaging the opposite ends of the finder element to mount the saine for movement over the face of the strips, while maintaining said finder element in a position parallel to the upper and lower or side edges of the board or base during its movement.
lll/'ith the above recited and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construction set forth in the following specification, particularly po-inted out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, it being understood that the right is reserved to embodiments other than those actually illustrated herein to the full extent indicated by the general meaning of the terms in which the claims are expressed.
In the drawing- Figure l is a face view of the apparatus illustrating the use of the same. i
Fig. 2 is a sectional view therethrough taken approximately on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. i
Fig. 3 is a sectional viewtaken approximately onthe line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing by characters of reference, designates a substantially rectangular base which has secured to its upper and lower or side edges longitudinal strips 12l and to its opposite end edges transverse strips 13, all of said strips having mitered ends 14 which snugly engage. Preferably the strips 12 and 13v are rabbeted as at 15 on their rear inner edges to receive they base lO-therein whereby the rear face of the base will lie flush with the 'rear edge of the framestrips 12" and 13 and whereby a portion of the strips will overlie and contact Vwith a portion of the front face of the base.
The upper and lower or side strips ,13 are further rabbeted or 'cut away as at 16 toprovide together with the base a groove which is designed to receive the upper and lower ends of the indicia bearing strips 17 upon which the columned indicia 18 is inscribed. The end strips 13 are formed with grooves 19 in a plane above the rabbets or grooves 16 to receive the opposite ends of the finder element or bar 20. Cross heads -21 are secured to the bar extremities 2O and are designed to bear against the inner faces of the end strips 13 whereby said bar is maintained in parallel relation at allr times to the upper and lower edges of the base 10 either when being Vmoved over the indicia bearing strip 17 or when it rests. It is, of course, understood that as many finder bars 2O as are desired may be associated with the device.
Under this arrangement a plurality of strips 17 having columned indicia thereon may be interchangeably associated with the base whereby upon sliding of the finder bar or bars thereover the corresponding transversely aligned indicia on the indicia bearing strips 17 may be read with facility and where two or more bars are used said indicia may be compared readily.
I claim:
1. A chart holder and nder comprising a base having upstanding marginal strips at the sides and ends thereof, the said side strips at their juncture iv-iththe base being slightly spaced'therefrom to define grooves for the reception of the ends of the chart and the confronting faces of the end strips having grooves'disposed in al planeabove theV first mentioned""grooves^, 'and a.' linoler element having its opposite extremities in the grooves of the end strips for mo-unting the same for movement over the chart.
