Patented @etE 7, 1924,
FRANCIS G. NIKIGSER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINATION BRUSH.
Application filed April 12, 1923. Serial No. 631,659;
To all whom if may concer/n:
Re it known that I, FRANois G. Ninn/sun, a citizen oil3 the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State ot New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Brushes, of which the following is a specification. y This invention relates to a combination brush and more particularly to a novel and improv-ed cluster and polisher, particularly adapted for use in cleaning upholstery and interior of an automobile body.
One of the objects of my invention is the provision ot a brush having means for dusting and polishing` embodied in the head or handle, so that the brush can be reversed and used for different purposes as when dusting the upholstery of the automobile body and polishing the framework or metal, in addition to removing an accumulation of foreign matter in the corner which is inaccessible to the common type of brush or whisk broom that is usually used.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a brush wherein the body portion is provided with a vpolishing and cleaning element on one side thereof and a duster on the opposite side, the rear handle portion being provided with bristles permitting access to dirt and accumulation of foreign mat-ter in corners and crevices.
With the above objects in view and others which will be more readily understood when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein a preferred embodiment has been shown,
Figure 1 is a side view.
Figure 2 is a vertical section through the head and the cleaning and dusting element.
Figure 3 is a view taken substantially on the line 3 3 of Figure l.
Referring now to the drawings, wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 5 designates generally a handle, preferably formed integral with a substantially wide wooden head 6, the said head is provided with a central rib-7, extending longitudinally of the same and intermediate the sides thereof as clearly shown by Figure 2 of the drawings. A plurality of cleaning elements, preferably in the form of felt pads are provided, the central pads or felt 8 may be of dii'erent materialfrom the outer felt pads,v9, 10, all of said pads being secured at their bottoms and to the top face of the wooden head 6 by gluing the same or with any suitable adhesive, designated by numeral 11. A metal band 13 extends around the sides andl outer end of the head 6, said band having inwardly .projecting portions ILL-which grip and engage the felt pads 9, 10, to hold the same inposition.
The bottom of' the head portion 6 is provided with apertures to receive the upper ends of the bristles 14C, which are also glued and secured therein, in the well known manner. On the opposite end of the handle 5, I have also provided bristles l5 of a size slightly larger than a shaving brush which v. permits of the cleaning of corner crevlces where it is impossible to gain access to by the bristles 14er the felt pads above referred to. The brush therefore, has a multiplicity of uses in that by simply reversing the head `or the handle when in the process of cleaning, the particular part may be engaged-with facility and ease so as to give the best results for the purposes intended.
While I have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularity, I realize that in practicel various alterations therein may be made. I therefore reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the details-ol construction or otherwise altering the arrangement of the correlated parts without departing from the spirit of` the invention or the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention what- I claim as new kand desire to secure by United yStates Letters Patent is :e
A brush of the class described comprising a handle having a head, a longitudinally eX- tending central rib in the top of the head,` Jfelt pads fastened to the top 'of the head andv on opposite sides of the` rib, and a xpad( clamping plate attached to the sides of the head said plate being provided with serrated struck out portions engaging the outer pads.
In testimony whereof I aiix my signature. i
