Patented Aug. 26, 1924.
PATENT OFFICE.
KAUFMAN RICHARD WALLACH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BELT.
Application filed December 6, 1922. Serial No. 605,169.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, KAUFMAN Rrormnn VVALLACH, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the borough of Manhattan,
county of New York, and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Belts, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to wearing apparel and particularly to belts.
The present invention has for an object to provide means for causing trousers and other garments to fit smoothly across the back, especially at the waist-line.
The invention has also for an object to provide a device easily attachable to a belt of usual construction to provide means for holding a garment in laterally smooth condition to cause it to fit smoothly against the wearer around a portion of the waist-line.
The nature and objects of the invention will be better understood from a description of a particularly illustrative embodiment of the invention, for which description, refer-- ence should be had to the accompanying drawings wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a belt constructed in accordance with the invention applied to a pair of trousers.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of one of the attachable hooks.
Figure 3 is a perspective View of a book of another form.
The belt shown is provided at spaced points along its length with means engageable with a garment to cause the garment to be drawn smooth around the waist within the space between these points. In the particular structure of the drawing the belt 5 is provided with two hooks 6, 7 at each side, which hooks are arranged to engage respectively forward and rear side belt straps of the trousers or other garment with which the belt is worn. The number of hooks may, of
' course, vary as desired. The hooks on one 10. This stud is designed to be inserted through a hole in the belt and to be retained thereby in much the same manner that a collar button is retained in a collar.
Preferably provision for adjustment is made to make the belt attachable for use with garments of difierent types, such for example as sport trousers and dress trousers. In the structure shown, provision for adjustment is made by providing a number of holes 11, 11 and 12, 12, one group being positioned for receiving each hook. The belt may be cut longitudinally at the holes, in effect lengthening the holes, to facilitate insertion of the stud as indicated at 13, if desired.
The hook l l shown in Fig. 3 consists of a blank of sheet metal having a tongue 15 at one end. This blank is bent to form the hook 16 for engaging the belt strap and the tongue end 15 is bent to form a hook to engage a hole in the belt. If hooks of this form are to be used the holes in the belt should be correspondingly shaped.
It is to be understood that the construction particularly shown and described is merely illustrative and that variations in the details of construction may be made without departing from the scope of the invention.
Claims:
1. A belt having a plurality of holes spaced along the belt in position to lie adjacent the belt straps of a pair of trousers and hooks attachable to the belt by engagement with selected holes and arranged to engage the belt straps of the trousers to draw the trousers tight around the back of the wearer.
2. A belt having a plurality of slotted holes spaced along the belt in position to lie adjacent the belt straps of a pair of trousers and hooks attachable to the belt by engagement with the slotted holes and arranged to engage the belt straps of the trousers to draw the trousers tight around the back of the wearer, each hook comprising a strip of metal bent double to form a strap engaging hook and a stud projecting from its rear 1iape engagealole through a slotted hole in the In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification this 1st day of December, 1922.
