Be it known that I, JOHN F. MAKowsKI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stockton, county of San Joaquin, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plaster Lath; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this application.

This invention relates to the building art and particularly to wall construction forv both interior and exterior work.

The object of the invention is to produce a composition plaster lath as a substitute for and improvement over the common wooden lath and other familiar types. Be duction of cost, ease in manufacturing, handling and greater efficiency in function-are the principal desideratums in the development of the invention.

These objects I accomplish by means of the compositions used and the mechanical combination of the elements as fully set forth hereafter. r

Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the base support for the lath which may be wood, plaster board, heavy card or straw board or any equivalent found suitable. a

I apply to the base support a layer or coating 2 of material suitable as a'binder and adhesive as, for example, silicate of soda. While this is still soft I sprinkle or otherwise distribute small gravel 3 over the coating of binding and adhesive material.

The lath may be made up in sheets, strips or other desired shapes. When placed on the wall the interstices betweenand back of the particles of gravel form a most efiicient mechanical key for plaster, cement or other plastics used in plastering and cement and stucco work, the wall, when completed, becomes a composite sheet of the great strength and with very little likelihood of its checking, cracking or falling.

A plaster lathcomprising a body, gravel sprinkled thereon, means for adhering the gravel to the body, interstices being formed between the particles of gravel and the adhesive means, and'a coating of waterproofing material over the exposed surfaces of the gravel particles and the adhesive means but not filling up the interstices therebetween. a
