Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VICTOR JAGGI, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA. I
IMPROVEMENT iN Loom PATTERN-CHAINS.
Specification forming part of LcttersPatentNo. 150,325, dated April 28, 1874; application filed October 6, 187:3.
To all whom it may concern:
E@ a known um I, VICTOR' Meer, @f the,
'tion appertains to fully understand, make, and
use the same, reference being had to the ac-l companying' drawings makingl part ot' this specification, in which- Figurel a top or plan view of the device embodying my invention, a number of the links of the chain heilig opened. Fig. 2 is a central vertical .section thereof. Fig. 3 is a view of the inside of detached parts.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
It is well. known that in vthe pattern-chain the removal ofthe links for change in the pattern is attended with considerable inconvenience, owing to the diiiiculty of forcing out the 'pintles which connect the links. There also exists a great liability of loss of the pintles, whereby the chain is detached and thus rendered inoperative, and the separated parts thereof endanger adjacent portions ot'. the looln.
My invention is designed to remedy these defects; and consists informing the links in ,sections or divisions, and uniting the sections by means ofthe pattern-pins, so that the links maybe conveniently separated, and the pintles made correspondingly accessible. lt also consists in constructing t-he pintlc solid with onefsection, and fitting itin depressions in the two adjacent sections, whereby the pintle is greatly strengthened, and displacement thereof prevented. It also consists in shoulders on the sections, for preventinglateral motion thereof.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the links, which are constructed in sections B B formed by divisions of the links in their longitudinal and horizontal directions. O represents a pintle for connecting two adjacent sections, and is cast or formed solid with one section, B. A depression, D, is formed in the ears or portion of the section B opposite to the pintle C, and a similar depression, D, is formed in a corresponding portion ofthe other section, B, so that when the two sections are together, the two depressions form a complete cavity in one lilik for the reception of the pintle of the adjacent link. In order to hold the two sec# tions, and thus connect the links, screws E are kpassed through the said sections, and their heads are ot' varying dimensions for the purposes ot' the pattern, as is well known. The inner face of the central portion F ot' the pini tlc, or the part of the section B that joins the pintle, is shouldered, and the innerl face ofthe portion G of the section B which corresponds to the portion F is likewise shouldered, said portion G in one section being arranged-be tween lthe ears ot the next section, and, the shoulders of the two sections engaging and being thus locked, the lateral pla-y of the sections is prevented, and thus the axial motion of thc links is in nowisc interfered with.
Then the sections are attached to each other the links are iirmly connected, and the pintles completely elnhedded or inclosed, so as not to be exposed, whereby liability to displacement is overcome, and separation of the links prevented.
lfVhen the pattern is`to be changed, the pintles are not to be driven from the links to separate the chain; but the sections are merely opened, the arrangement relative to the pattern is ett'ected, the sections are applied to cach other and the screws properly fitted thereto, whereby the chain is again in practical condition.
Having thus described my invention, what I cla-im as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The pattern-chain link, formed in sections B B', united by means ot' the. pattern-pin, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The sections B B', provided with the solid pintle O and depressions D, all constructed and operating substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The sections B B', provided with the shoulders F G, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
