Description

Patented July 29, 1924.
UNTED STATES ABRAHAM SUSSELES, 0F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
DISPLAY DEVICE.
Application filed May 84, 1928. Serial No. 841,142.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM SUSSELES, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings an State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Devices, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appcrtains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to display devices and particularly to devices of this class which serve as containers, as well as means for displaying predetermined merchandise; and the object of the invention is to provide a device of the class specified composed of a plurality of parts, which when assembled, resemble a box or cabinet and which when extended serve as a display device for displaying the contents of the box or cabinet; a further object being to provide a device of the class specified with improved means for supporting a tray in connection therewith and preferably in an inclined position, whereby the contents of the tray may be readily seen when the device is on display; and with these and other objects in view, the invention cons'sts in a device of the class and for the purpose specified, which is simple in construction, efli'cient in use, and which is constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement may be made with n the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of 1 my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of one form of my improved display device in an extended or display position.
Fig. 2 is a transversesection of the device shown in Fig. 1 with the parts in a collapsed or compact position in full lines, and in an extended position in dotted lines; and,
Figs. 3, 4 and 5 are transverse sectional views of modified forms of display devices which I may employ.
In Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing, I have shown a box or cabinet 10, oblong and rectangular in form and comprising side walls 11, front wall 12 and a back wall 13. The inner faces of the front and back walls are rovided with inwardly directed shelf memers 14, which serve to support a tray member 15 as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing, and hinged or movably connected to the top of the back wall 13 is a cover member 16 adapted to be held in an open inclined position by a strap member 17.
Movably connected with the bottom of the front wal 12 is a supplemental front member 18 provided at its free end with an enlarged portion 19, and the supplemental front wall 18 is adapted to normally lie u on the front wall 12 as shown in Fig. 2, an to be extended into a horizontal position as shown in Fig. 1, and indicated in Fig. 2 to serve as means for supporting and retaining the tray 15 in an inclined or display position as shown in Fig. 1.
The tray 15 in the construction shown is adapted to receive and support a number of rectangular boxes 20, in which belt buckles, or other articles 21 may be placed. In the accompanying drawing I have represented my improved display device as designed specifically for the purpose of displaying belts and belt buckles, but it will be understood that the device may be used for other purposes. The belts are adapted to be placed 1n the box or cabinet 10 and are indicated at 22 in'Fig. 1 of the drawing, and it will be understood that the belts as well as the buckles will be on display when the device is in the position shown in Fig. 1 and if desired, suitable advertising, or descriptive matter may be pictured or applied to the inner face of the cover member 16, but as this forms no specific part of the invention, it is not shown.
In the use of my improved device as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing, it will be understood that when the box or cabinet 10 is shipped from place to place or is in storage, the various parts thereof will assume the sition shown in full lines in Fig. 2 and 1n placing the same on display on a counter or in a window, the cover is raised into the position shown in Fig. 1 and the su lemental front wall 18 moved into the position shown in said figure, and the tray 15 is removed from the box and placed in the position shown in Fig. 1, thus producing a neat and attractive display for predetermined articles.
In Fig. 3 of the drawing, I have shown a. slight modification in which the su plemental front wall 18 is eliminated, an the tray 15 is provided with two or more flexible strap members 23 which are secured to the another modification in which a sup le-- mental cover member 26 is employed. is cover member normally rests upon the top of the tray 15 when within the box or cabinet, but is movably connected with the top of the front wall 12 as shown at 27 and ada ted to be moved into the position shown in ig. 4 to support the tray 15 in an inclined position, and the supplemental cover member is provided at its free end with an enlargement 28 to form a seat or support for the tra 15.
1 1 1 Fig. 5 of the drawing, I have shown another modification, in which the parts 18, 23 and 26 are eliminated and in this construction, the inner face of the cover member 16 is provided adjacent to its hinged or attached end with an inwardly projecting part 29 which forms a seat for the tray 15, and in this construction two of the strap and support the cover member 16, instead of one as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing.
lVith all forms of construction shown, it will be understood that the tray 15 is supported in an inclined position in connection with the box or cabinetor a part thereof, and this is one of the distinctive features of my invention, and while'I have shown certam details of construction for carrying my invention into effect, it will be understood that I am not necessarily limited to these details, and various changes therein and modifications thereof may be made within the scope of the a pended claims without departing from t e spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, what I c aim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I 1. A display device of the class described comprising a box-shaped container, a tray ada ted to be normally contained within sai container, means mounted in connection with said container for su porting said tray in an inclined sition with reference to said container, sai means involvin a member movably connected with sai container, means for supporting articles to be displayed in said tray, said means comprising independent box members, said oontainer bein provided with a cover member, and sai container being provided on the inner face of the front and rear walls thereof and below the top of said walls with shelf members for supporting the tray within the said container.
' 2. A display device of the class described comprising a box-shaped container composed of side and end walls, a supplemental wall forming part of the container and m0v able relatively to one of the first named walls of the container, and a tray adapted to be normally contained within said container and to be supported in an inclined position with reference to the container by said supplemental wall. members 17 will be employed'to reinforce 3. A display device of the class described comprising a box-shaped container composed of side and end walls, a supplemental wall forming part of the container and movable relatively to one of the first named walls of the container, and a tray adapted to be normally contained within said container and tobe supported in an inclined position with reference to the container by said supplemental wall, said supplemental wall belng provided at its free end with an enlarged portion forminga rest for retaining the tray in redetermined position.
In testimony t iat I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name this 21st day of May, 1923.
ABRAHAM SUSSELES.
