To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, VVILFRID NoLET, a British subject, residing at #457 Champlain Street, in the city of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mops; and I do hereby declare that the following is a true, clear, and exact description of the same.

The present invention relates to improvements in mops, and is fully described in the following description and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a plan elevation view of a mop according to the invention, when in inopera tive position.-

Figure 2 is a plan elevation of a mop according to the invention when in operative position.

Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view through the casing of said mop.

Figure 4 is an enlarged perspective View of a portion of the handle and the end of the slidable casing.

Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.

Referring to the drawing 1 is a handle rod having at its lower end a U-shaped iron suitably secured thereto by means of the bolt 3. Above said U-shaped iron 2 is provided the disc l, and 5 is a spiral spring provided around said rod 1 abutting at one end against said disc 4 and at its other end against the inner end of the sliding member 6, said spiral spring being preferably adapted to press said handle 1 away from said member 6. 7 is a tubular member preferably of elongated shape, one end of which fits snugly over said member 6, and rigidly secured thereto by means of the screws 8. The said tubular member 7 extends parallel With said rod 1, and 9 is a clamping collar adapted to secure around the outer periphery of said tubular member 7 the fabric mop 10, said collar being rigidly secured by means of the bolt 11. The mop 10 is preferably passed through the U-shaped iron 2 and its ends are secured in said collar, so that on pulling the rod 1 outwardly of said tubular member 7, the mop 10 will be carried inside of said tubular member as disclosed in Figure 1. The operation is reversed when the mop is to be used, and in order to lock the rod 1 in position, a bracket 12 is secured to said handle 1 by means of the screw 13, said bracket having an out- Wardly extending hook 14 which is adapted to engage the pin 15 mounted on end of the sliding member 6.

The sliding member 6 is shaped so as to provide a handle to operate said tubular member 7.

It will readily be seen that by pulling the mop upwardly in the said tubular member the upper '7, and by slightly turning the sliding member 6, the mop will be wrung dry.

Another important feature of the present invention is that once the mop has been said' U-shaped iron, a slidable member mounted on said rod, a tubular member suitably secured to said slidable member, a mop, the outer ends of which are suitably secured to one end of said tubular member, said mop being secured intermediate of its length in said U-shaped iron on said rod, and a spiral spring located within said tubular member and said handle in opposite directions, substantially as described.

An article of manufacture of the character described comprising a rod having at one end a U-shaped iron suitably secured thereto, a disc mounted onsaid handle adjacent said U-shaped iron, a-slidable mem ber having formed therein a handle mounted on said rod, a tubular member suitably secured to said slidable member and adapted to enclose a portion of said rod, a mop, the outer ends of which are suitably secured to one end of said tubular member, said mop being secured intermediate of its length in said U-shaped iron on said rod, a spiral spring provided around said rod and located within said tubular member and adapted to ress said tubular member and said handle in opposite directions, and means to rigidly secure said rod to said slidable member when said mop is in operative position, substantially as described.
