.To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, Louis F. BRAsoII, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of N ew Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door Hangers, of which the following is a specification.

`This invention has reference to an improvement in door hangers and more particularly to a door hanger for the foldingY folding doors for telephone booths, etc.

A. still further object of my invention is to provide a door hanger wherein the same may be installed at comparatively small cost and wherein the doors will be supported effectively at all times, the nature of this hanger being such as to answer the desired features of simplicity and durability even though the same comprises but relatively few mechanical parts.

With the above and other objects in view as the nature of the invention will be better understood, the same comprises the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and claimed.

Figure 1 is a fragmentary interior elevational view of a telephone booth equipped with the conventional type of folding door, the same being shown and supported by my novel hanger,

y Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through Figure 1 taken at a point above the hanger for disclosing the same in proper plan the folding door being shown as moved to an open position,

Figure 3 is an enlarged detail cross section taken substantially upon the line 3-3 of Figure 1, and

Figures 4 and 5 are enlarged perspective views of certain of the elements comprised in my novel'door hanger.

Now having particular reference to the Serial No. 663,098.

drawings, 5 designates a telephone booth or other similar housing formed with a door Vopening 6 and within which is arranged the usual folding door 7V that comprises as is well known, a pair of sections designated respectively 8 and 9. The section 8 is hingedly connected at one edge as at 10 to the adjacent edge of the door opening while the two sections are hingedly joined together as at 11, it being obvious that one of these sections and preferably the section 9 is provided with anoperating handle whereby the doors may be drawn inwardly of the booth and consequently slid to the open position of Figure 2.

My novel door hanger per se embodies the provision of a pair of brackets each of which is designated 12, these brackets each comprising a relatively elongated flat-like plate 13, Figure 4, formed adjacent its vopposite ends with openings 14 whereby the same may be screw-threadedly connected to the interior of the telephone booth at opposite sides of the before mentioned door opening 6 and adjacent the upper edge thereof. Formed integrally with each of the elongated flat-like plates 13 and slightly beneath the upper endthereof is a forwardly extending arm 15 the front end of which terminates in an upwardly extending finger 16 this finger being formed with a pair of staggered openings 1'? co-extensive with a pair of openings 18 in the plate 13.

Secured at their opposite ends through the medium of. set screws and to the plates 13 and fingers 16 of the respective one of the brackets 12 is a pair of longitudinally extending spaced parallel Hat-like guide bars 19 between which is slidable a head 20 formed upon the upper end of a stein 21 which is preferably circular in cross sectionk and is arranged within the upper end of a sleeve 22 thatk is integrally formed upon one edge of a bracket plate 23, the length of this sleeve being slightly lesser than the length of said bracket plate and the bracket plate being formedwith a plurality of openings whereby the same may be secured to the door section 9 at the upper edge thereof through the medium of screws 24.

The before mentioned stem 21 isgformed centrally with a relatively long vertical socket 25 the upper end of which terminates within the head 2O and is screw-threaded and within which is arranged the upper end of a bolt 26 the extreme upper end of this lill fll)

bolt being screw-threaded as shown in Figure 3 for threaded engagement with the upper screw-threaded end of the before mentioned socket 25. Between the guide bars 19, the head 2O of said stem 2l is formed with a transverse slot 27 within which is arranged a roller 28 rotatably mounted upon said bolt 26 and that has rolling contact with the inner faces of said guide bars, the upper end of the head being formed with a trans verse bore 29 within which is arranged a pintle 31 upon the inner projecting end of which is rotatably mounted a roller 32 that has rolling contact with the upper edge of the innermost one of the guide bars 19.

The sleeve 22 of the bracket plate 223 is formed interiorly with `a guide liange 33 through which is extended the before mentioned bolt 26 the lower end of this bolt terminating within a cylindrical shaped cup 3 that is formed at its upper open end and ugon its front side with a vertical ear 35 which ear is formed with an opening that registers with a screw-tlneaded socket in said sleeve whereby this cup may be rigidly secured to the sleeve through the medium of a set screw 36. Diametrically opposite this ear 35 the upper end of said cup is additionally formed with a lateral relatively square-shaped lug 3T that is formed with a screw-threaded socket 38 that registers with an opening in said bracket plate Qwhereby the cup` Bil may be additionally secured through the medium of another set screw 39 it being of course obvious that this screw must be positioned before said b acliet plate is secured to the door section 9.

Slidable upon said bolt 26 beneath thev flange 23B of the sleeve 22 is collar 40 between which andsaid flange 33, ball bearings del are arranged, this collar l0 being normally maintained in the position shown in Figure 3 through the medium'of an er;- pansible helical spring 42 that surrounds said bolt 26 at its lower end said spring being maintained in position upon said bolt by a washer and pin 43 and flat, respectively.

ln vien' of the above it will be understood that the s ional door 7 is yresiliently supported ad trent one end due to the presence of the spring d2 it being of coiu'se apparu ent that whenever the door is being moved to the open position of Figure 2, relative turning movement of the head 2() and stem 2l will be prevented while the sleeve 22 will be allowed a free turning movement around said stem Qi as well as the bolt 26 the rollers 28 and 32 permitting of a free sliding movement of the head between the guides for allowing the door to be freely opened and closed at all times. this door hanger construction manifestly precluding any chance of the door sagging and consequently effecting its efficient operation.

I have shown in the drawings and set forth in the specification that this improved door hanger is applied to the conventional type of folding door employed in conjunction with telephone booths yet it is however, to be understood that l do not wish to limit this invention to such an application, as in the future practice thereof the device may be equally as well employed in conjunction with doors of this type used in widely varying forms of housings.

Having thus described my invention what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is :m

l. Ina door hanger for folding sectional doors, a pair of guide bars at the upper edge of the door opening, a head slidable between the bars, a roller carried by the head and having rolling contact with the top edge of one of said guide bars, a transverse roller having rollingl contact between said bars and movable with said head, and means for rotatably connecting said head to one of the door sections.

2. In a door hanger for folding` sectional doors, a pair of guide bars at the upper edge of the door opening, a head slidable between the bars, a roller carried by the head and having rolling contact with the top edge of one of said guide bars, a transverse roller having rolling contact between said bars and movable with said head, and means for rotatably and resiliently connecting said head to one of the door sections.

Inl a door hanger for folding sectional doors, a pair of guide bars at the upper edge of the door opening, a head slidable between the bars, a roller carried by the head and having rolling Contact with the top edge of one of said guide'ba'rs, a transverse roller having rolling contact between said bars and movable with said head, means for rotatably connecting said head to one of the door sections, said means comprising a pendant bolt carried by said head, and a sleeve carried by said door section and within which is rotatably and slidably secured said bolt.
