' WW @MW UNITED STATES PATENT FFIGE.
HENRY FOWLER, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN APPARATUS FOR COOKING EGGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 148,8 17, dated March 24, 1874 application filed March 10,1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY FOWLER, of the city of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a certain novel and useful Apparatus for Poaching or Frying Eggs, or for analogous uses; and I hereby declare in what manner the same is to be constructed, arranged, and operated; and in order that the public may fully understand the nature of my said invention, and those skilled in the tinsmiths art may be enabled to construct the same, I will describe it as set forth in the following specification, with accompanying drawings, which are lettered to correspond with and form a part of the same, to wit:
Figure 1 is a plan of the oscillating diaphragm A, proved with six or any suitable number of funnel-shaped cups, 1 2 3 4 5 6, slots 8 s s. The stop-pin P and handle H are firmly secured to the stationary bottom diaphra gm, as shown at Fig. 2, which is a vertical section of Fig. 1, A representing one-half of the top oscillating plate or diaphragm, A being the stationary bottom plate, which is also provided with corresponding stationary, inverted, open-bottomed funnel-shaped cups 1 4 arranged upon the same arch so as to be immediately under the open-bottomed oscillating. cups 1 and 4, when the diaphragm A is turned upon the screw-pin N for the purpose of discharging the raw eggs into the hot pan B within the lower funnel-shaped cups 1 4, for either poaching or frying purposes.
After describing the several parts of my invention, I will next proceed to point out the modus opcrcmcli of using the same.
First turn the movable diaphragm or plate A, Fig. 1, to the right, until the small openings in the bottoms of the funnel-shaped cups 1 2 3 4 5 6 are closed, distribute or break an egg into each of the inverted hollow conical cups, then turn the oscillating plate A to the left until the contents of each tunnel is dropped through the openin gs into the pan B, as shown at Fig. 2, where the gelatinous mass is held in shape by the inverted funnel-formed cups 1' and 4, until it is thoroughly fixed for use.
The novelty of my invention consists in the construction of a diaphragm or horizontal circular plate oscillating upon a pin at the center thereof, and provided with any suitable number of receptacles, 1 2 3, &c., arranged upon the same arch so as to correspond with and empty themselves into similar chambers, 1 24, forming a part of the fixed bed plate or diaphragm A in the pan B. Therefore,
hat I claim as novel and useful, and wish to protect by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
An oscillating diaphragm, A, having any 1 number of receptacles or cups, 1 2 3 4; 5 6, open at the bottom thereof, in combination with the stationary bed-plate A, with corresponding receptacles or cups 1 4, handle H, slots 8 s s, and stop-pin P, screw-nut and pin N, arranged and operating substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name in the presence of two witnesses.
HENRY FOVVLEB. Witnesses:
JAMES P. MAOLEAN, WILLIAM BRAUN.
