STATES ATENT Erica,
SAMUEL VVESTERVELT, OF BLOOMFIELD, NElV JERSEY.
CLOTHES-POUNDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 680,555, dated August 13, 1901.
Application filed December 15, 1900. Serial No. 40,032. (No model),
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL WESTERVELT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bloomfield, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Clothes-Founder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in clothes-pounders; and the object is to provide a simple and eifective construction of pounder which is light in weight and which may be manufactured and sold at a low price.
With the above object in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter fully described, particularly pointed out in the claim, and clearly illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a ponnder embodying my invention, and Fig; 2 a vertical longitudinal sectional view of the same.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, A B O designate three cones, arranged one within the other and formed at their upper edges with concentric bands D, by means of which they are attached to a handle E, said handle fitting in the innermost band. The central cone A projects beyond the bottom edge of the other cones, as illustrated, and fixed within said cone at the lower edge of the innermost cone B, and consequently at some distance from the lower edge of said cone A, is a bottom plate F, said plate closing the opening to cone B and also bottom is provided with perforations H, some of them opening in the cone B and some into the chamber between cones A and B. Gone 0, which is the outer cone, has its lower end closed by an annular plate I, which is provided with perforations J. All of the cones communicate with each other through perforations K, formed in the walls of cones A and B.
From the above description it will be seen that I have produced a very simple construction of clothes-pounder by means of which the clothes may be very quickly and eifectively cleansed. V
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
A clothes-washer, comprising a handle, a plurality of cones secured to the lower end thereof and arranged one Within the other, the intermediate cone being extended below the lower edges of the other cones, a plate arranged in said cone at the lower end of the innermost cone, and closing said innermost cone and the space between said cone and said intermediate cone, and perforated in line with said innermost cone and said space, and an annular plate closing the lower end of the outermost cone and perforated, said cones communicating with each other through the medium of perforations formed in the Walls of the inner cones, substantially as described.
