Application led December 5, i922. Serial No. 605,023.
To all whom t mag/concern."
Be it known that I, JEFFERSON HERKS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of Vayne and the State of .Michigam have invented certain new and useful Improvements in .Cigar Holders, of which the :following is a speciication.
This invention relates to a holder designed to act as a carrier case for a cigar, preventing the same from being broken, it alsoacts as a holder for a lighted cigar when entering any place where smoking is prohibited, the cigar when so enclosed going out, and a portion of it may also be used as a mouth piece or holder when smoking.
The main object of the invention is to provide a carrier 'for a cigar thatk has been lighted and which. the owner does not wish to throw away, but wishes to re-light and co tinue smoking at some future time, as for example after coming from a theatre or other building where smoking or the open carrying oi a lighted cigar is prohibited.
fl/'ith the above objects in view the invention consists of the following novel features, pointed out in the claim and shown in the accompanying drawing, inV which:
Figure l is a vertical section showing the mouth piece detached from the holder and the cigar partly inserted.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section showing the cigar enclosed.
Figure 3 is a cross section on the line a-a of rig. 2.
ln the drawing l is a cylindrical body portion formed of any suitable material. mouth piece and cigar holder 2 of the usual type is adapted to be threaded into one end of said holder or body portion. To
the opposite end of the body is threaded a bottom or end portion 3. rl"his may be removed and the ashes knocked rorn the cigar before resumlng smoking. Within the body portion and secured to opposite side walls of the same, and extending substantially parallel to each other and to the axis 0f the body are springs 4.
At their free ends these springs carry cutis or clips 5 adapted to grip and partially embrace the ci ar and to hold the same away from the wa ls of the holder. This not only prevents the walls from becoming heated or in contact with the lighted portion of the cigar, but prevents movement of the cigar be knocked ot before withdrawing the cigar from the holder'.
To release the cigar the thumb and fore-- finger are pressed against the heads 7 pressing them into the position shown in Figure 1. This separates the springs and releasing the cuis or clips, 'and the cigar can then `be easily withdrawn, and lsmoked either with or without the holder tip 2.
`What I claim is A holder of the kind described comprising a body portion, a mouth piece detachably carried by one end of the body portion,
vsprings arranged within the body portion,
clips carried by the springs adapted to embrace a cigar, and headed pins extending through the wall of the body portion and secured to said springs, pressure upon the pin heads spreading the springs and releasing the clip.
In testimony whereof aiiix my signature.
JEFFERSGN HERKS.
